If you can handle the agonizing, boring, long ass grind that is Aion, then you will be rewarded with a really fun, powerful ranger. It's got the graphics that you are looking for as well. It's difficult for me to recommend this game because it fails for me in other areas, but being a ranger lover myself, I'll admit that I loved my Aion ranger.
Cool animations, stuns, and a knock-back ability keep your target away from you. You will have to kite a bit but that's part of any ranger class. (except easy-mode WoW ranger where you don't take a single point of damage due to your OP'd warrior pet). Slow going early on, but around level 20 wehn u get some decent shots its great.

I played Ranger in Aion to 50, It's a tough class to play in the beginning of the game, but 20 or 30+ and you'll start feeling the power.
It is however a long way to 50, but you didn't say you wanted to hit max lvl in a day, so i assume you don't mind.
And also, Aion Ranger does not come with a stupid pet, every game out there that makes ranger classes have a pet, i skip..
I love my rangers, and their bows, I dont need some shitty animal to do my dmg for me.
Though Aion is not a game for me, you might like it. Give it a try.
Knight online has good ranged classed that are fun (mage and archer) but the game it self has many many many other problems.... (too bad for us that got addicted to it when it used to be great and cant move on now)

I second the Squig Herder and despite on what people say, the ranger in Everquest 2 is pretty awesome. Once you applied your poisons you are pretty much a god, easily slow down targets and kill them before they even get near you. I have heard many stories of rangers soloing dungeons that no other class could solo at late game, so I would recommend giving it a try at least. But yeah, when it comes to real fun, Squig Herder is one of my definate favourites as a ranger lover myself, I'd certainly recommend trying Warhammer Online as well.
