It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
so you decided to give AoC another go.
you install the game, patch up everything, log in and... bam!
its lagging, your ping skyrockets to 4800 or starts stuttering/freezing like mad when you move or even got disconnected.
or perhaps you meet disapearing people invisible horses or blurry textures.
whys that you ask?
Background download (just like in guild wars).
yes, the game is not finished downloading after all those patches after all.
theres a cure however [options - misc. - background download]
there you will find a slider where you can adjust the download speed cap, leave a couple of kb/s left from your current maximum download speed to avoid some of the latency issues or just bear with it for a while it will gone as more as you play.
[Alert for people with capped bandwidth],
the background download is quiet big ive noticed +10 gb on my game folder since the last reinstall.
people with high bandwidth connections wont even notice this.
and i know most knew about this already.
but cant help to see threads still popping up about these issues and rarely mentioning this.(i lag NOT! get new GPU get better PC get a real ISP! etc. )
thanks for reading.

Well, the problem of lag still persists, regardless of the background downloader. If the solution were really that easy, don't you think FC would gladly announce to the whole world how to solve the perennial lag problem (an ongoing problem since 2008)?
Lag, as well as crashes, as well as network/performance issues, can have a multitude of reasons.
Solve one cause, and it solves the problem for maybe 10% of the people that had it. Find another fix, and you cover maybe 25% of the people that had that issue. Etcetera.
The symptoms in many cases may be the same, but that doesn't mean that the causes behind it are always the same.
Me and some friends, we got the major lag and crashes the first few days after RotGS launch. After that and the first patches, they were gone. So that solved it for us.

never said it will solve every problem.rather i was refering to people who experience these symptoms.
Ah, but I wasn't replying upon your post (I also don't know if you were replying upon mine, btw)
