Hmm have i missed something ?, last time i checked realid is not forced its up to you to use it and accept friends request to use realid.
There you go, end of debate the nutters and drama queens can stop trolling and crying like girls.
and seen as blizz is part fo the eu and even in the states they will be forced to change this . they will have to follow privacy laws so they cant just force this on you . i think a lot people are just jumping the gun . but shame on blizz for not putting all the information out first . ive been playing since 2005 think ive post on wow forums twice. so this wont have any inpact on me . plus i quit for eve .
I would wager that the reason Blizzard has opted for real names rather than say, a less intrusive Account ID# or universal handle, is because, by and large, the concept of handles and nicknames is mostly unique to the fairly insular gaming and forum community - and such handles do not readily support the kind of real-world viral networking that FB has proven to be so powerful.
The goal of a FB integration project on the part of Blizzard would be to grow their existing user base very substantially, not to support their existing user base, which they appear to have mostly played out.
The rest of the world networks using real names and dislikes anonymity. Facebook has repeatedly clubbed us all like baby seals with that fact, so this move isn't really that shocking... Save of course to those of us who have grown up within those tightly circumscribed 'anonymous communities'.
This btw, is strictly my own opinion and in no way represents Turbine's broader consensus on the matter. Mainly because there appears to be no consensus on the matter - we're too busy arguing heatedly about it.
Indeed, weapons are no longer bound by their sheaths and it is only a matter of time before tempers flare and blood is spilled in these hallowed halls. I will speak no more of it.

I'm so confused. Did Facebook change over the last few years? I certainly never used my real name on it, and if any of my friends had posted my real name, on my Facebook or theirs, they might have ceased to be my friends.
I'm also confused by all the "your privacy means nothing, stop whining, you paranoid babies" posts. I can't wrap my mind around why anyone would get upset and obnoxious just because someone doesn't want their personal information strewn all over the internet, either within the game our on the forums. If a person has no problem sharing their first and last name, that's their choice, I have no problem with it, and if someone doesn't want to provide that information to passing strangers, why should anyone think this is a bad thing?
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
