Benchmark Clarification - It does't mean much yet!

WaldoeWaldoe Member UncommonPosts: 642

Here is a tiny bit of information explaining the scores on the benchmark. SE was thinking ahead when they created the hefty benchmark requirements. They plan on this game looking great for years to come. Computers later down the road will be able to achieve the higher and maximum scores with ease.

"JeuxOnLine:The minimum requirements that appear on pre-orders are very differentfrom those required for alpha testing, but they are insufficient toachieve a correct score on Benchmark. How can you explain sucha drop of prerequisites?

Tanaka:Because it is an MMORPG, we have maximized the quality of play sothat players benefit long term. Over time, I'm sure you will be ableto obtain a high score on Benchmark, but today’s equipment is notable to reach the maximum score. This was made on purpose. Butbecause technology evolves rapidly, you will be able to reach a highscore with an average computer in the near future."

The article  also has some other bits of info, but I wanted to get the point accross that the benchmark does not mean much right now for all those freaking out about it.

Final Fantasy Core fansite translated the interview, and I have the source for the original posted below. Not sure why the translated version forgot to use the spacebar so much though haha.

Not only that but the benchmark is also currently not optimised (hence the lower requirements for launch) and does not fully utilise SLI/multi-GPU setups (it only uses one GPU). There are some tweaks you can make to the benchmark software to get a more accurate reading from your system though.
