As being a TOR downer I can explain reasons why I say the things I do.
First being that people are overhyping the game. I understand its Star Wars and its Bioware but come on, people claim its going to be good before its even out and thats just as annoying as people saying its going to suck before it comes out.
Second is people claiming that TOR will be good ONLY cause its Star Wars and/or being made by Bioware. SWG wasn't that good and Bioware has never made a full blown MMO before. People just need to calm down about saying how good this game is going to be and people wont complain so much.
Third is that games I look forward to get negative comments from people who havnt even tried it and it gets old when the game you want gets bashed on for no reason yet people are hyping a game for little to no reason for it other then the IP and company making it.
Fourth is cause I am bored.
Okay... I don't mind people having their opinions about not liking it for whatever reason, but this is one reason that doesn't make any sense, and I'm tired of seeing.. and I've seen it WELL over 25 different times. A company doesn't have to have made an MMO before to be able to make a successful one. All the companies that have made mmo's before and keep releasing new ones make all the crappy MMO's that are flooding the market. Blizzard has only made ONE MMO ever... and that one mmo has changed the face of the genre, and has held the number one spot for 6 years and running like it or not.
All of the companies that have released an MMO before, CAN'T seem to learn from mistakes. It seems more likely that a company freshly jumping in, with a focused vision, has a higher success rate of creating an ongoing game because those companies i.e. Blizzard/Bioware are making one main mmo, and concentrating on that ONE to refine it and make it as good as they can possibly make it. I know SWTOR isn't out yet, but I have a feeling that Bioware isn't going to have the mindset of making a new MMO right away, a la NCsoft, and they'll continue to refine, and support this one for a long time coming. (Blizzard is now working on a second mmo, we all know this, but when they were making WoW, that was all they were thinking about and focusing on)
Ok, so your reasoning behind hateing the statement is cause "Blizzard did it"? Never knew Blizzard and Bioware were the same company.
I blame testosterone, anonymity, bad days, and the inability to relate to people face to face.
MMORPG.COM: a place to vent your own.
Though every now and again, people come when they are zen, and the posts are occasionally transcendental.
Anonymity is a major issue IMO.
There was a select group of "vets" that carried on about SWG for over 3 yrs here on MMORPG.com. One going so far as to dress up like a clown, and make videos to complain. The complaining simmered down a few months back finally. We are still talking 3-4 yrs, and the videos are still being made.
Are you calling this normal? Hades no it isnt normal. I have had Crohns Disease since 82. I would never think to whine about it daily on a forum. Be it for a week or a month. Over 3 yrs worth? YIKES!
This is just the internet.
What if I done it in RL? Everyday of "why me"? I wouldnt be married, have friends, nor would I of made backers out of college Proffesors/employers before I ended up on disability. Everyone has problems. Some may be more severe than others, but that doesnt mean someone wants to hear about another persons problems constantly. That is what folks like Dr Phil are for.
Which is what anonymity gave to those SWG vets that wouldnt STFU about it....a way to air their problems in a narcissitant manner. "OMG we lost our game....whatever shall we do?". I suppose it would of been one thing had it remained confined to their group support forum....but it was everywhere on this site(and others).
Had they been carrying on in RL, what would of been the results? I am wagering shunning and/or forced intervention.
Anonymity on the internet is a terrible thing IMO. The Real ID thing with Blizz fell though, but would like to see something like that come from the internet ISP a person utilizes. Instead of using your name, a person be forced to use one ID across all services on the internet(or at least a way to link a person up to it).
It would make problem starters more reconizable for reporting to their ISP holder. Instead folks use those proxies, and can slam a site under various IPs....with the site holder being none the wiser.
Ah well.....betcha Al Gore didnt think of this when he invented the internet. :P
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
why is it that when i say "idiot" in a post and don't even direct towards anybody i get a warning. this guy just said the F word twice (i don't say that word >.>). i'd be banned in a second if i said that.
anyways, they're called opinions dude. you can form a opinion on a game you haven't played. a lot of people on this site don't think so, but it is possible. my opinion is that the game will be more of a single player RPG but with a multiplayer option and some WoW style boss fighrs. why do i think this? because with the amount of instances i've seen so far the game shouldn't be called a MMO and the boss fights were no different from WoW. healer, DPS, tank. whoa, way to try something new.
You cant use the word idiot without directing it , plural you may have been able to make it all encompassing and avoided targeting a single person.
How would Boss fights be that much different from any other MMOs. Having seen The Hero Engine in action it is a true MMO engine, with the vast size of the world land masses as described by play testers the single player tag doesnt add up, it is just a playstyle choice. Available in most MMOs just difficult to play to into forced grouping mechanics.
There will be a storyline for all the char classes but this is but a small part of the game that will introduce people to the SWTOR game world and get people into the game and also provide the value for money. The OP is so spot on that it would be a travesty if he got warned.

No.. it's not because "Blizzard did it". Why would you simplify my statement into that? I just don't understand why people use the saying that Bioware has never made an MMO before therefore they can't make a successful one on their maiden game.... success in making an MMO doesn't come from whether or not you've made one before. Blizzard is the best example because they've only made one MMO, and before that one.. they never made one.
I have to say, I am pretty damn excited about a new Sci-Fi MMO backed by a big name Publisher, an epic franchise, and a big budget.
Now for an important public service announcement:
Star Wars is fantasy with a space backdrop, it is not sci-fi. Just wanted to clear that up.
Your regularly scheduled ranting may continue.
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.- -And on the 8th day, man created God.-
Well I hasve to agree that the MMORPG community is extremely negative, more so than many others. I myself am looking forward to this game and I don't really care what other people think about it at this early stage. What does concern me is the level of hostility and alck of maturity in these forums lately. People just spout off loads of nonsense just to do it I guess. It would be better, I surmise, if the community were a little more interested in the MMORPG genre and in civility in general.
It's sciencefiction, but from the sub genre (or related genre) science fanatasy.
As wikipedia stated:
' The meaning is that science fiction describes unlikely things that could possibly take place in the real world under certain conditions, while science fantasy gives a veneer of realism to things that simply could not happen in the real world under any circumstances.
Another interpretation is that science fiction does not permit the existence of supernatural elements; science fantasy does. Even the usage of this definition is difficult, however, as some science fiction makes use of apparently supernatural elements such as telepathy.
For many users of the term, however, "science fantasy" is either a science fiction story that has drifted far enough from reality to "feel" like a fantasy, or a fantasy story that is attempting to be science fiction.'
The last comment is why a number of people would consider Star Wars science fantasy.
You could make a case for Star Wars being from the 'space opera' subgenre though.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
When I need more info on a certain MMO then MMORPG.com is a perfect place to do some research. Here it is almost guaranteed that you will find equally positive and negative opinions for every MMO out there giving you both sides of the story and allowing you to make your decision more accurately.
I am sick and tired of forums crawling with fanbois that burn/hang anyone bringin up concerns/dislikes about their favourite game. As mush as I am concerned you fuckers owe me at least $150 by now for missguiding me into purchasing crap MMOs.

So how would YOU define sci-fi?
Genre definitions are an extremely tricky business. Mostly, however, Sci-Fi can be described as genre which tells stories which are about technology and could not be told if we were to take the tech out of it. This is the general rule of thumb that I've seen used by a number of Sci-Fi magazines, so I imagine it's as good a ruling as you're likely to find.
Star Wars is decidedly not Sci-Fi. Star Wars is western wuxia.
