Athlons 1.8 and up are even good enough to run most games. How much ram you have 1 gig would be awesome and your video card mostly. I would'nt say 64 is slower. Dont quote me on this .
Pent4 are built for video apps and creating. They good in gaming cause gaming and video editing go hand and hand. With video editing alot more demanding. With amd was built mostly for gaming. From my experience is that amd are alot cheaper without giving up performance or speed. You want the best and not worried about cash pent4 or you really have the cash Xeon. Or you want to pay less and not sacrifice speed, performance or stability. I cant even see an issue arise even with doom3 system requirements with the 64. I was looking at the top lists of gaming pc. 1 caught my eye. dual Pent Xeon 3.6, 2 not 1 but 2 256 ram pcie video cards, 2 gigs of ram, 2 250 gig raid0 and (like it said in the add for the extra storage 400 gig 7200 rpm harddrives. Hate to be the tech on the other end of line when you petition for lag and crashing. To top it off had wireless keyboard and mouse with 30" home theature plasma moniter.
I have been using my current setup over a year and never had any real issues.
Dual Pent3 966, 1 gig ram, 120 gig harddrive and 128 ddr video card. I am looking into upgrading from the board. Looking into a Athlon 3gigish. Huge difference in price building it then the 64. If I ever break down and buy a new pcie vid card then I will look into dual 1.8ish. Have a thing for huge cpu cache lvls hehe. I know some about computers but very far from pro. Lucky enough to have a bud that is.
You: Hey I am catching some serious lag and freezing then crashing.
Tech: Hmmmm maybe isp? or you dont meet system requirements
i will end up going with the AMD. as long as im not giving up performance. i have never been one to go with the "name" just for the name. if the AMD performs just as well as the p4 thats the way im going to go. Im not rich to throw around the extra cash

Do you guy's AMD 64's really work well? Because with 64 bit processors since most programs out nowadays are based on a 32 bit structure most if not all instructions from a 64 bit computer are first translated into 32bit to be processed, and vice versa....
If you are gonna buy a 64bit processor make sure the apps you buy are taking advantage of the increased instruction size. or else you are just wasting a WHOOLLEE NanoSecond to sign extend a 32bit instruction.. ...
But i guess if you intend to stock up for the future.. 64bit is the way to go..

forget about ghz, they don't matter anymore
what you need to be looking for is a 64 bit processor (which amd make)
now if you do get a amd64, the speed will be slower in ghz than that of a p43.2, however, it will give you better performance.

AMD 64 3000 is the cheapest (of the 64 bit, not the Athlon XP) and runs games AWESOME!
Remember do NOT buy AMD Athlon XP, BUY AMD 64
i have a AMD 64 bit 3200+
and its damn sexy works nice with my geforce 6800 :P
the mmo im going to be playing is testing a 64 bit right now :P

like i said DnL is said to have a 64 bit version and thats the game i want to play so i got a 64 bit processor
i believe alot of games will convert to 64 bit or atleast have a 64 bit version also and my 3200+ runs 32 bit applications just fine
