Need a little advice

Ok so heres the deal, I've played mmorpg's for 4 years (mainly Wow but I did play SWG for a while) I have changed my life style and don't game as much because I prefer hanging with my girlfriend way more, not to mention I do work so that takes time too. But the days when shes busy and so is everyone else in my life I like to keep busy, so I've been looking for an mmo to burn time on and can enjoy.

Yes I have thought about Wow again but it's just not the same game it used to be and I don't enjoy it anymore. I fell in love with RF online when it was P2P and there were no gold farmers or very few of them, but that game is dead now, too many spammers and not enough players.

I also miss Vanguard and payed in advance to play only to watch the launch crash and burn in my face. I hear its better now but I also am informed from the forums that almost nobody plays, and im a very social person, and being alone all the time would very much kill the "fun" factor I need to keep myself from not dieing of boredom. (Yes I do work out and no I don't spend all my time on the computer, I play basketball as well for those of you who might say "get out and do something productive, but you cant always be outside because its about 110 degrees out here and I don't feel like dieing of heatstroke while I work out)

Does anybody have any idea's on a game I should look into, at the moment Im trying DDO with my father because I feel we both need "bonding" time. But he works as well and that game played alone is very dull, and it just doesn't seem like a game that can keep my interest either.

Just a bit of info, I have played almost every free online game on this site over the course of 3 years, so I do feel a little stuck because most games right now feel like a total let down, Aion was a heartbreaker because I put a lot of hope into that game and it just wasn't what I thought it would be, I can take a grind, but not one like that, I just don't have that kind of time. Warhammer was also a let down, and I followed that game and AIon for a long time, but they killed that game as well for me.

I don't know guys, is it still worth looking for a game to play right now? Or should I just keep waiting for another game to come out and hope it doesn't burn itself out like the rest of the mmorpg market.

P.S- I have thought about everquest II but im not sure on how accepting the player base is, and all those exspansions, do I need to buy them all to get the full game right away? I would ask my friend who plays but shes very busy and can't get ahold of her. If anyone can tell me more about it I would be very greatful to hear :)

If I'm understanding you right,  you want a game that you can play now and again.  From a personal standpoint I don't think I could pay a monthly subscription for MMO's that I'd only be able to play once, maybe twice a week.  It's just not worth while for me.  However I'm not exactly sure what kind of timeframe you're workin with either.

Have you considered picking up multiplayer games other then MMORPG's?  Most are a one time fee and then you're golden.  You get the social aspect without the recurring ding to  your walet, and you get a time filler when nothing else is available.  I get the feeling that whatever the time filler you're looking for is,  it would be of very low priority so I'm thinking something that isn't overly money intensive.

I'm thinkin go multiplayer or convince your GF to play games with you.  However I'm pretty sure there are other things you'd rather do together then sit at a computer.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I've thought about that too, and tryed it with xbox but its very hard for me to pull away from my old roots if you can see what I mean.

My time frame is this, At the moment classes are out so theres no school going on at this time as im sure you all know, if im not with my girlfriend during the day then i try and workout or game, at night i get to game because its my cooldown time to relax. Work is not very stable at this time because of the economy and at my job they have a little to many people working and not enough calls coming in, so im not called in much (sadly). So my gaming time is at nights, or on thurdays and maybe wednesdays. So I get a fair amount of time to play I suppose, and I am looking forward to GW2 I just need a time filler.

I suggest AoC.  It's casual-friendly.  There is a lot you can do solo, but also many group opportunities if you enjoy.  It's got a good storyline and the combat in itself is very fun at all levels - which is probably more important to you than endgame.

Be sure to play on a PvE server.

I've been playing EQ2 for 6 years now and am happy to recommend it.  However, I think for you AoC is a better choice.  EQ2 is much more endgame focused and while there is tons of content for all levels (more than any other game probably), it simply isn't that much fun until you get to levels 80-90.  This can be done solo, but given that you just want a game to "tide you over", i don't want to recommend a game where you have to spend a whole bunch of time just getting to the level where the fun is.  It's a good game, and all expansions are included when you buy the package that has the latest one.  Also, EQ2 has terrible lore and very poorly written quests, so doing all the solo stuff is extremely mind-numbing.

LoTRO is quite good for what you want also, but it's not as solo-friendly as AoC.

I never thought about looking into AoC, I mean I did when it first came out but I heard it was awful, and now some people say its much and and to come back, is there enough people playing still? Im glad to give it a try. I just hope theres enough people playing still after a bad launch

honestly, people talk shit about everything.  "bad launch" had 1 million players buy the game.   most of them didn't stick around but still "bad" is relative.   I played the game at launch for about 3 months, leveled to 80 had a ton of fun and did not encounter any more issues than in other games.  As far as I am concerned the launch was fine.

I quit because I was playing on a PvP server and i wasn't really enjoying the PvP.  Also, my 6-year-old computer wasn't running it very smooth - it was ok for solo and groups, but when it came to raids or sieges, it just couldn't handle it very well - and at 80, that's what I wanted to be doing.  Also, the raiding game is pretty similar to EQ2, just with less content.  I was already invested in EQ2 and had a good guild and friends there, so I saw no sense leaving in order to get the same thing i was already getting.  If EQ2 and AoC both came out today, I'd choose AoC and never look back.

AoC is a great casual MMO.

There is tons of content now, you will outlevel it all without seeing it. There are fewer servers so they are very well populated. The PvE servers SEEM to be more populated, but that's just my first hand experience with admittedly much mroe time on the PvE side.

Also you get levels over the time you are subscribed. You can spend them or not. I have on some toons and not on others, depending on what content I felt like doing, and a few times to get to that next level to get the power I'd been coveting.

Even when you're busy, you can jump in for a few hours every few days and get something done, some crafting, some missions, a dungeon.

What about Guild Wars? No monthly fees, you just need to buy the game and thats all. Its fun, there is lot of content when you buy all expansions and to be honest its a way better than WoW (in my opinion).

Some way, which I'm not too clear on, some achievements will be carried over into GW2. Maybe those drapes I hang in Eye of the North.

(I assumed the OP already played that given that he mentioned waiting on GW2 in his second post.)

Yes you are correct I have played guildwars, I own all the expansions, the only reason i don't play it anymore is because I was never really good at the pvp side of that game, the skill farming and such never clicked with me. But I do agree it is a great game, and not having a monthly fee is amazing because I can pick it up anytime I want to. But yes I am very interested in GW2 haha

Oh and thank you for all of your help, I think I might give AoC a chance and see how it all goes. I owe you one :)

Another option is Warhammer which is very casual friendly. Heck you can just on and off again play tier 1 (Endless free trial account) on the days you have free from your GF and it provides hours of fun without costing anything

if you like it, do the world a favour and come back and post something nice.  people only seem to post negative stuff ever.  (of course if you hate it, by all means, post that as well!)

AoC is a good idea.  It has a free trial as well.  Always a bonus in my book.  The combat is a bit different from most MMO.  This may / may not be a turn off.

Warhammer online is too.  Espcially from a casual standpoint as you can play Tier 1 forever if you want.  I found it quite the grind after T1.  That is just me tho.

APB is casual friendly but, it is less MMO and more fps like.  Definately a love it or hate it game.  No free trial so, there is risk involved with the purchase.

City of X has a trial and is fun to play also.  However, it is not as casual friendly as CO.

Champions Online is very casual friendly and fun to play.

Star Trek Online is casual friendly but, does not feel like Star Trek IMO.  In either case I think Cryptic has lost a huge chunk of the fanbase with this and CO.  Both felt rushed and a bit underwhelming.
