A usual wow sub costs £7.99 a month, multiplied by 10 million people paying around that a month = £79.000 000 monthly, or 120 000 000 dollars... multiplied by 12 months for a year... 1.440.000 000....
Yeah you read right....1.4 billion dollars.....a year....
And that is on SUBSCRIPTIONS ALONE!!!!!!! I am not counting Box Sales, or their item shop....
And the corporate swine at Blizzard, cant hire a forum moderation team like some F2P MMMO's to clean up the forums???
Or Community managers for their servers like some F2P MMO's???
But I guess a single post on a forum for MMO fans wont really make any ripples, or those that are sheepishly paying Activision Blizzard ask if they are getting their moneys worth....and make some noise so they accept their role in helping make wow a better experience for all, in game and outside it....
I mean, I dunno, for 1.4 Billlion, i'd expect more from a computer game and it's role in the community it's created...Wouldnt you??
Earning so much money and still game looks terible and plays awefull i wonder why people plays such games is beyond me:P
It's like asking, why do people buy Apple? Their products are inferior, your in a walled garden with no flash support, and there's a lot better products on the market. I really don't know, but I feel that if I could find out why. I would be a multimillionaire.
Got to page 25 and you can see the P&L for 2006->2008. Thats what they spend there money on.
So, in 2008 they had $2.8bn in Sales Revenus, Costs of Sales was $2.4bn so profit was about $400mil. A 16% gross profit margin which is pretty crappy, you should be aiming at an average gross profit of 25-30%.
servers cost then about 175 grand a day and then they have to pay an entire company , not defending them just you need to take in mind they have A LOT of people on their payroll and they do expand just sadly in more advertising / marketing fields
You saw that price quoted from Blizzard/Activision? The 175k a day? That's 62 million a year!
How about they put that money to use and try to make some real combat in the game and stop the shity clicky combat?
How people play this game is beyond me.
Try Darkfall and Mortal online to see how the future of MMOs is going to be.
I played Darkfall and I Play WoW. imo the wow target attack and forget style is much better than spamming the left mouse button like crack monkey.
"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

If their products were truly inferior people wouldn't buy them. My mac has been running beautifully since 1999 and the only issue I had was to recently replace the hard drive. So, around eleven years with no major problems? I really couldn't care less about flash support so that would never figure into it.
The REAL problem I see here is that some people feel their opinions are spot on "right" and universal when in reality many people might say 'ok good, your opinion and you are welcome to it', but it has nothign to do with what they care about or find important.
WoW looks fine. It doesn't have to look like anything more than what it looks like becuse it's not aiming to be AoC realistic. Top it off with the idea that people are looking for game play that speaks to them so that issue is separate from "looks".
I'm pretty sure I"ve had some co-workers ask why adults play video games as they thought all of them a waste of time and money. Maybe they are thinking that if they knew why, they would be multi-millionaires.
The cool thing is that you and I know.
And we'll never tell.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Theres over 200 in America alone (that IS a fact on WoW's FAQs), so at a guess I'd say there maybe about 600 servers worldwide. Far more than any other MMO to date. So its no wonder that the operating costs of WoW are so high.
Using the above figure, each server costs about $291 / day. Which is believable when you factor in costs for internet backbone usage, etc.

How people play this game is beyond me.
This is why I no longer play WoW. They get an unreal amount of funding, yet its extremely boring. It never changes, and it caters to only the PvE raiding crowd.

Blizzard was not part of ATVI until 2008, and I'm not sure if Blizzard financials would have been on there for the fiscal year of 2008. Also, that would include every single title under the Activision name. Not just WoW.

Wintergrasp, Arenas and Battlegrounds aint pve.
Like I said it caters to PvE raiding crowd. It does try to dabble in a minute amount of PvP.

I'd hardly call an ENTIRE zone for pvp "dabbling". I'd hardly call the sheer number of battlezones "dabbling" either.
Now, granted, the game doesn't exactly encourage much in the way of "openworld" pvp outside of Wintergrasp, but given the changes coming in Cataclysm, it's possible that more emphasis maybe placed on pvp than in the past.
But still, the amount of PVP content in the game is hardly "minute" even if it is predominantly a pve game. Also don't forget that another PVP zone is coming in Cataclysm too.
