Hey yall,
Well I want to start by saying i havent played everquest 1 so .... yea. I played both WoW beta and EQ2 beta but im not sure what to buy... For eq2 i had to turn down the graphics because my videocard sucks... Radeon 9200 and it wasnt really that fun. Im not sure why, I wanna buy this somtime in my life but im not sure what i should be if i buy it. I want a class thats easy and fun and i want to be able to slide into the game. I dont want to buy the game if it has a huge learning grind. Also is the grinding hard or is it so/so? Also is it soloable? or forced grouping? because somtimes I just dont want to be around people lol (which sounds stupid because its an MMO. So far i have played... UO, COH, AO, FFXI, planetside, Saga of ryzom and SWG.... I enjoyed UO and COH mostly, PS/Saga were pretty good, SWG/AO/FFXI were mostly crap.
So with the info provided i have a couple questions... Will i like the game, What class whould be fun and easy, is it solo able and hows the grind.
Hola!, I do not speak spanish but i can say hello.... is that a crime?

Well I would say get the game. I didn't play EQ1 eithier but I got the hang of this rather quickly. I'm not sure about how all the classes are to play but I started out as a scout. So far, the scout class has been really cool. You'd just have to figure out what kind of playing style you like and dedcide your class on that. Honestly, soloing is a little tough. Not to say it can't be done though. To say you can't solo at all in this game is a complete lie. And when I have had to join a group, I haven't had to wait any longer than about 10 mins. to find one. And thus far the community has been really cool.
The grind isn't terrible. Definitley better than L2 and FFXI. If you get into a smart group lveling can go fast. Also in the first 15 levels their have been alot of quests so that helps with xp as well. Like I said I'm having a great time playing but each person is different so who knows. I'd say at least give it a try. And on a final note, if EQ1 showed us anything, it's that it has staying power. Hopefully the same is true for EQ2.
Don't buy it.
It is a very tedious level grind with harsh penalties for death.

just wait, you never know what is going to happen, especially (unfourtuantely) because both games have left huge room for expansions. By the way nice fallout icon. Now that was a game worth getting.

I have played EQ for two weeks now and have the following assessments:
1) This game is a huge, huge grind. Bigtime level treadmill.
2) Graphics are incredible.
3) Two city system might be fine for an eventual P vs P layout, but it eliminates the concept of "I'm in your town as a knight from a foreign land". Or something like that. The idea of trekking across Norrath, going from city to city is lost. Now, you simply venture out from a home base, grind out experience, then head home.
4) Lots of DAOC-type quests. Easy to get, mostly easy to do, but really an endless list of tasks. Made it difficult for me to want to start out a new character, because I felt compelled to go through the same 70+ quests (actually there are more, I just did 70). I think there should be hundreds of quests in a city, but they should be hard to find and many should remain hidden for years. With all of them open, they become chore-like in a sense.
5) Class system is okay, but I think they could have eliminated the branching choices (i.e., you're a fighter at level 3, a warrior at 10, a guardian at 20, etc).
6) Combat is fast and furious, much like DAOC, and almost to the point of carpal tunnel (though not quite). You have to pay attention and have to hit the right keys, more or less, to maximize your experience. Playing a rogue-type where positional attacks are important has got to be a hassle; you'd have to keep moving and moving. Miss the "sandwich-style" combat of EQLive, where it's slower and more social.
7) Community is reflected in zone-wide chat (a good thing), but the home cities have so many zones that within them I hear very little chat. Mostly in outdoor zones is their chat.
8) Vendors/merchants are a pain. Hard to find who sells what you need and haven't figured out how to get into the consignment system yet.
9) Freeport is too over-the-top. Everyone is evil in a fairytale-like manner. Even the merchants don't like you. Qeynos is passable, but neither city feels like a home. I much prefer the old EQLive (in pre-Luclin days) Freeport and Qeynos.
Overall, I think they stepped out too far with this two-opposing city concept and botched the game. Plus, it runs too fast, so not only are you level-grinding, but you're working three times as hard. I also find myself missing the magic of EQLive, because it's not here. I think they could have done better to close down POP and Luclin (just say it blew up, but during EQLive) and revamped EQLive's graphics.
I totally agree, after playing for only 3 weeks i feel like im burnt out, and i only made it to a level 20 ranger. I dont know if i will like the future of this game, money is very hard to come by and its almost impossible to solo after level 20.
I honestly dont know how some people made it to level 28-32 already, the grind in this game is horrendous. Maybe its just my ranger (ive heard they are badly gimped later on) but im losing interest in the game quickly. And I would consider starting another character, but just thinking about doing all the early quests again makes me shudder.

Heh I would but I didnt like WoW that much, tried the open ST but it didnt hold my interest. I think I am done with MMORPG's for a while. They were fun back in the day but i don't have fun playing them anymore. Maybe its just the experiences that you have your first time playing one, I dont know. But im definetely not going past the free month in EQ2.
Another reason, I've met soo many people in MMORPG's that are just complete dicks. And i hate not being able to do anything about it. So I think for me its just games like UT2004 and hopefully Quake 4, where I can kill people that annoy the crap out of me and not "go red". Hope you all have fun playing your games though, thats all that matters in the end.

The thing is.. new mmorpgs are trying to make you do too much.. and concentrating on graphics and easy paly alot too.. I liked my first mmorpg (asheron's call) for quite a while, but then they started adding patches that amde it easier and less fun.. eqlive added all those expansions.. made PoP... after that I was done.. I mean.. the moon was enough without ropcket ships.. but goign to an alternative dimension using a stone book?
