I agree with Teala in this case. Without videos or other 'proof' it's basically all assumptions, and for now in my book the reports and comments I read lean more towards the SW:ToR worlds being huge and in total equalling or even surpassing LotrO's worldsize than reverse.

1) It isn't SWG. It was never trying to be SWG. It will NEVER be SWG.
Yep, and that's my main problem with this game.
So true.
Then Don't Play When It Comes Out.
Seriously, are you still driving your first car? Did you buy your parent's house so you never have to move? Are you still working at your first job? Did you buy DVDs of all your favorite childhood shows so you never have to watch anything else? Things change. Move on.
Makes sense to me. Sprawling landscapes with canon POI's littered doesn't make for a great game. There were some good things about pre-NGE SWG, but the maps weren't one of them.
I don't know why Zyms post is gone but that's one of the best points I've heard about the entire "SWG2" thing.

When I have had the time this morning, I have searched Google and found nothing...in fact this very thread comes up more than anything else. So if you could be nice..send me PM with a link to these maps...please. I cannot find them.
Nostalgia, I declare I am a SWG lover, I love exploring the early SWG worlds, or user houses, to find a good sword or gun.
Now, there are no more games out there in which the wilderness matters, like the SWG days. No more games in which we interact with each other like we matters, and not the mobs. Crafters need harvesters to provide mats, crafters provide gear for harvesters to use in combat, or during harvest, merchants need all and provide for all.
Just wish, the new SWtOR can provide just a glimse of that design. I do not care about flying. I totally enjoy SWG before all those crazy hollocast jedi thing. Old SWG is a world, not just a hack and slash game. Oh yeah, there is no raid in SWG. Not that it matters that much. for me and many I play with.

Ok, Leakerz had two 9 min vids about Trooper and Smuggler. The maps were quite small, BUT: we know it is the starter area. Think of the size of the Elves & Dwarfs starter area in LOTRO (Ered Luin) if you are familiar with that.
I admit, I too am greatly influenced of SWG and its massive planets, where you could just roam endlessly without aim or sense. It just gave me the feeling to be in a real world and not some quest tunnel. I hope the worlds beyond the starter planet offer that. I guess we have to see. But Bioware history does make one skeptical.

From 2m10s onwards Erickson responds upon the question of the interviewer mentioning that Ord Mantell (starter planet) is huge and how other planets relate, and Erickson responds by saying that the Origin Planets are 'ridiculously smaller, way, way smaller than the other planets'.
I also would like to quote from the playtester report I posted in a former post in this thread, about his experiences on one of the Origin Planets (starter planets):
-We began to split up a little bit and explore the world. It was much larger than I thought it would be, and the rumour on the street is that this is one of the smallest of the planets. It took a little under an hour to roam from one end of Hutta to the next, but that was on pretty much a straight line with only a couple little side ventures. To cover every inch of the map, would take a pretty good chunk of time, and that's if you stayed outside and didn't go into any of the massive interior sections.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I really don't see how that tester can honestly say it took him/her a "little under an hour" to cross from one side of the map to the other. The tester in the videos clearly showed that each of the npc mission givers they used(only a couple missions showed) were within a 2min run from each objective. Periodically throughout the vid, he/she brought up the map and you could see their progress across it and it sure didn't look like it took an hour to get from point A to B.
I guess until either the NDA is lifted or more info is leaked out(whichever comes first), I will have to agree to disagree.

One playtester talking about a small-hour trip from one end to the other in Hutta - let it even be half an hour for argument's sake - and the interviewer talking about Ord Mantell being huge sure doesn't sound that the Origin Planets are anything like WoW Teldrassil-size.
But I guess we have to wait for additional info, yes.

Next question from a reader is will I be ushered along a storyline and have very little room to sway or can I sway off and go in a different direction?
James: Our game is very open. We’ve developed several worlds, and each of those worlds is wide open, huge worlds with many square kilometers and you’re able to explore those worlds any way you want, just like your standard MMOG. We do have a class story that drives you through the world and that class story is personal to you and it takes you from the beginning of the game to the end of the game. If you want to take a break from your class story and want to do some world quests that are not a part of your class, you can definitely do that. In fact, the majority of the content is that in the game. So, it’s not like you’re just going along you class quest like a solo quest throughout the entire game, there’s a lot of room to go off and do whatever you want whenever you want. Also, within your own class quest, you can make choices and those choices impact on how your class quest unfolds. There’s a lot of room for choice; it’s not a linear game by any measure.
"TTH: Will the worlds be instanced, where only myself and my party can enter or will it be an open range for everybody on the planet?
James: Just like I was talking about earlier, these worlds are huge public spaces. When you go to the world of Coruscant or Tatooine, you’re going to have a huge world to explore with many square kilometers and it is all public space. You’re going to see all the other players that are part of your shard running around doing their thing, and there are phases within a world and those phases are often where class events take place, but that’s a very small percentage of the space. It’s not a heavily instanced game. We are using instances, which we’re calling phasing, to do a lot of our storytelling, but it’s a massively multiplayer game. That’s what people are signing up for and that’s what we’re giving them."
“Our public areas are part of one contiguous world,” Ohlen says. “Not just our cities – 90% of the game, actually, will be a public area where you can run into other players.” He says the number of players per server will be comparable to World of Warcraft’s, some of which are home to 30,000 players at once."
So, take what you've seen so far in the videos with a "pinch of salt" because it seems that we ain't seen the entirety of each world. Not by a long shot.
Based on what I have seen in the videos so far the End Game is gonna suk!
I mean come on.... Just higher levels and more powers of the same you see in those vids? Puh-Lease! Who do they think they are kidding?
Story? You want me to actually PARTICIPATE in the story line? Who died and made you king of the MMO world?
Why the hell would I want to spend my time running around in a Star Wars environment listening to scenes where they are talking to me and play this game only to get more powers to do more of the same walking around and listening to the game talk to me.
I mean seriously, I could go outside and ride my bike or play sports or go see a movie if all I wanted was entertainment!

I played it at E3. Cast your doubt until you play it. I enjoy large maps like Eve very much. But that is why I play Eve. TOR is more like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and KOTOR. It is very RPG based.
To the OP: I've mentioned this before in another forum topic, but just to clarify something. Yes that guy may have been a fanboi (GOD I hate that spelling... please spell it correctly), but this is coming from someone who isn't a fanboy..... The podcast "epic battle cry" has a host named Brent Adams, and he and the other 2 on that show completely despise MMO's, and Brent played SWTOR at E3, and that was his game of the show and he's even going to buy it day one.. and that's coming from someone who isn't a star wars or TOR Fanboy.. that's coming from an MMO hater. And don't bother replying to this with "Well, then this proves that it's not an MMO blah blah blah" Save that reply, I'm not interested in hearing it.
And also... You are very closed minded... anytime someone (like me) replies in a non-hateful manner to your topic with links and anything from where I'm/we are describing from, you're always right there to shoot the example down just to keep your hate going. And then you lash back at us to not post if we're not going to post something realistic or constructive... either way when we do it's still not enough. So you're just a troll from what I gather throughout this and all of your threads. So stop hating on SWTOR, and just don't play it, because whenever you start a thread asking for peoples opinions on the game, you always stay on the negative side, so there's obviously no changing your mind, so just don't play it.
As far as I go, I'm very open minded to try anything before I actually criticize it. Any MMO that I've played that I don't like... I've actually played FIRST before I say that it's garbage or I don't like it, but even if I do, I don't go around expressing how much I hate a game and pushing my misery and hate onto the people who actually enjoy whatever game that might be. And that's what you're doing, but you start by asking or stating about a negative point in your eyes but you can't be swayed, so just stop posting all these threads, and go play an MMO you enjoy.
Based on what I have seen in the videos so far the End Game is gonna suk!

After a statement that 90%% of the game is open world, I guess this post of yours is just a joke. Real MMOs are not about end game they are about a journey.
You don't have to spend any time in this game at all.

One of the main thing I have always enjoyed in mmo's is the ability to explore new areas. I don't play SWG anymore but the map size of their planets were great to explore. So far, by looking at a couple of the world maps of SWTOR, the planet maps are only about the size of a city area, like CoX, with no wilderness to explore. I kind of expected it from Bioware since all their KOTOR games have restricted maps like that. But I had hoped since they claimed to be trying to make an mmo here that they would mmo-style maps, not console maps. I understand it's still beta, no need to state the obvious, and for that same reason is why this should be brought up now in hopes the devs might actually listen unlike SOE did in the end.
You need to make an effort and do some proper research. Starter area are compact the Worlds are truly enormous.
Your thread is dead and buried before it starts go read up on the game before posting rubbish. It is getting a little boring.
If I did not know better I would say that you have no interest in this game. Your loss.

Yet again another "lets jump to conclusions" post. You don't know what the actual size of the maps are. You don't know how the game actually plays and you wont until you actually play the game. Stop freaking out about stuff you've invented to scare yourself.

LOL, poor argument. Just makes me wonder that if a person that normally hates MMOs likes the game, maybe MMO players are going to hate it. Time will tell.
I was superhyped by the October 2009 announcement of this game. As I have lurkedly (no shit it's not in the dictionary) followed the game, I have become less and less excited. But, until it releases ( I actually asked to be removed from beta consideration) and I can see for myself, I will continue to enjoy the fanboi vs. hater threads.
Another thing that make the game fail, in less then a year.
To you and to the creator of this thread : before posting things out of your heads do a search at SW TOR's website. There are some developer blogs over there explaining alot of stuff regarding the game. In one of them a developer specific refers to the world design and clearly states that the maps will be fully open and players will be able to go everywhere.

If you re-read what Nova posted, you'll probably discover that it was said in jest (to mimick some how some posters on here like to generalise to the point of losing all detail and jump to conclusions based on little fact).
In other words, the post wasn't meant to be taken seriously. That's how I took it anyhow

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
This is probably old news to a lot of people but I thought I'd post it....
It has been confirmed that SWTOR's planets will be continuous "open" worlds like WoW has with a relatively small percentage of instanced dungeons.

Top 10 Most Misused Words in MMO's
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
ROFL, you know for a moment, I ALMOST believed your sincerety Lol.

Haha if it wasn't for the first and last sentences, I might have believed the nerdrage. Well done.
You know, when you said that the "Blazing Saddles" theme started playing in my head and my mind created the image of a silhouetted loan cowboy riding off over the horizon. ROFL.
Top 10 Most Misused Words in MMO's
After a statement that 90%% of the game is open world, I guess this post of yours is just a joke. Real MMOs are not about end game they are about a journey.
You don't have to spend any time in this game at all.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
You need to make an effort and do some proper research. Starter area are compact the Worlds are truly enormous.
Your thread is dead and buried before it starts go read up on the game before posting rubbish. It is getting a little boring.
If I did not know better I would say that you have no interest in this game. Your loss.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
Keep up the good work!
