Somewhat of a dilemna for me.
Probably would like to keep my old one because of all my old linkshell buddies from years ago potentially finding me again, but I'm thinking new game; new toon name and new friends.
How are you guys planning to go? New name for a new start or old one? Given it much thought yet?

I never really played FF XI so I'll just be doing what I always do. Making a good character named based from whatever race I choose to play, come to think of it that's the only thing I'm an RP nazi about... naming of characters. Pisses me off to see "poopy-face L33T sauce" names.
I don't RP mind you, I just believe if you're going to go into another world you may as well do so in a manner befitting the world you're entering.

I have always use a variation of the name Krypt (Krypt, Krypta, Krypty, Kryptin... you get the idea) and probably will be doing that again.
I'm pretty sure i'm gonna use my name from FF11, but then again I don't really know! >.<
Picking a name is usually a lengthy process with me, lol.
The first character i create in a game is allways named Bachus(if avaialble) but then i am an altoholic and most of the time poor old Bachus never gets even close to max level to be finally forgotten between the dust of time while i level alts.

I made the mistake of playing a Mithra with a feminine name in XI.
Yeahhhhh wont be doing that again.
I'll be using a first and last name this time. That seems to be allowed from the screenshots I've seen, right?
I'm not sure if I want to use the same name (Edeus) or grab the good names that are always taken.

I'd really not openly talk about what name(s) you plan to use here, you can answer the question without doing so. I just know I for one wouldn't want to increase the chances of someone taking the name I planned to use.

Please...
The odds of someone on here taking the name you really want AND being on the same server as you are slim to none. Plus your much more likely to have your name taken by entering the game 3-6 months after launch than say the week of launch...
Plus the names that are snatched up right off the bat aren't contrivances people invent (like OprahWindfury and Lightningballz) but actual names that are super famous (Squall, Cloud, Sephiroth) to name a few... So if you plan on using a super famous name, you better get the game quick! If you're thinking of a contrived name, then post it all day long and it'll be forgotten in a week...

Yep, first and last names are allowed which is very nice and pretty much assures not too many names even accidentally the same.
More games should have this feature; it's pretty useful and certainly adds a much better dimension to personalizing your toon.
"TO MICHAEL!"
This has got me a little puzzled. Are last names optional or mandatory?
Hope to use my old name actually. Similar race and class (main/initial) as well. I only fear is that I won't be able to come up with a good surname in the next 2 months!
Was just going to ask this myself. Every screenshot I have seen players always have a first and last name. Even the dev videos I have seen they had names like Beta Betaa in the demos.
It will truly suck if I have to come up with a last name. I'm not that creative.
New name, was a mithra in 11 and I really got tired of being her after a while, going to be a taru this time around.
Last names are indeed mandatory.
While it's been years since I've played FFXI (6 or so, and I've been waiting for this game for about 4), I will be using my FFXI name. I'd rather not divulge what that is, even though I doubt anyone would steal it. I'd just rather not take the chance!
P.S. It's not Carukia, which, by the way, is a great name for a rogue-type character and might make a good name for a Taru. Google it if you don't know why.
