None of that sounds fun to me. Going to piss isn't something I consider fun.
"Sweet, I just shot fire out of my hands and killed a dragon! But now I have to go take out the trash and put a tampon in."
Lol, no thanks.
But that's realism. It will be like your character has it's own life. Sounds amazingly fun to me. And perhaps when we finally get to the .hack point of MMOs, these tasks will be even more immersive. You may forget which world is real.
lol, sorry for reviving a very old tread(exactly a year ftw) but Realism can be fun, it makes a game feel more real, (sims castaway etc.) .
But, it is true that when people are killing people on CoD or even hack and slash on what not, but It's not to forgot that this genre is MMORPG, which means Role-Playing, realistic roleplaying can be very fun.
Of course people don't like to 'check their period' when killing monsters, but honstly true it removes some grind.
Also, the gaming worlds are getting more and more realistic, so this "realism" is going to be more realistic to.
Also games are going to bring more virtual reality in the furture.
Also in games like call of duty it's just about owning people, people would (of course) hate things like watching your breath when killing people, so hey, Realism and Unrealism are both welcome in the MMO world.
Realism can mean more than this:(y'know every green thing)
Virtual Reality/Very High Definition Graphics/3D(3ds one cuz I own one and it REALY brings reality)
Open World, exploring everywhere, no invisble walls, 3 dimensions to explore
Social, talking to people with mics, etc
Having fun, laugh, enjoy, experience, discover, what not.
Action, Active Combat, don't spam 1-10 the whole day.
I personaly think 'Realism is the thing that makes you feel you're in the game.'
Realism is something that is going to be coming alot in the furture.
But yoiu can probably make a MMO 20 times as real as they are now and still make them fun, no MMO is even close to real.
The only aspect that is truly real in MMOs is that in some games it takes the time of a full time work to be successful, that is far too realistic.
Not all realistic things are boring, some are a lot more fun than the easy to make way many games handles things like combat.
For one thing it is a lot more fun to put on a armor and fight melee with a dull sword than to fight in any MMO. Combat could be a lot more realistic and evebn gain fun on it, not loose fun. But twitched based combat isn't more realistic, melee is a game a lot more about using your brain than most people think.
I think that that amount of realism needed largely depends on the "flavor" of the game and how it is played. For example, I don't think "survival" features like having to eat, drink, and sleep would work well in a game like WoW. WoW is such a finely tuned, directed experience that having to do these things would just be an annoyance and detract from the game.
On the other hand, I felt like the "survival" features worked very well in Fallout: New Vegas on hardcore mode. That game is much more of an open/undirected experience, and survival has always been a theme in post-apocalyptic media. Having to find water and food that is relatively radiation free on a regular basis helps to immerse you into the experience.
As far as MMORPGs are concerned, I think "realism" works much better in sandbox games than theme park just because having to deal with your character's needs won't detract as much from the experience. Still, I think that you can have "too much" realism even in a sandbox game. For example, having to leave all your armor in the bank if you ever want to go swimming may be a little too much. Having to eat and drink may be okay though, it's also a possible money sink and helps the economy just like it does in real life.
To me, too realistic would entail spending or losing RL money or dying/getting injured. Other than that, I usually enjoy a more realistic experience: A virtual world simulator.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

It is too real if it isn't fun enough.

True, combat needs te be active and don't like half sleeping spamming 1-10 the whole day.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
ARMA2 is about as real as i would like a game to be. TOO real is too much of a pain in the arse.
