hcoelhohcoelho Member UncommonPosts: 529

Hello there, i was just reading these foruns and got interested in Vanguard. I'll try it soon, but i have a question.

Would be possible to play both Vanguard and LOTRO ?

I'm a casual Lotro player so i'd like to know, how time cosuming is vanguard ?

Kinda funny I am in the same boat as you.  I am kinda getting LOTRO burn-out at the moment so I was looking at other games to fill the gap for a bit.

Yes, it's possible to play both.

However, I have a lotro account AND a vanguard account and can play neither because I have absolutely no time. about an hour a day if that to play games.

    Hopefuly that will change.

but one "could" use an hour per day to play games as long as one didn't have high expectations of doing anything more than just enjoying the time you have. Eventually you will creep up in level. As they are both pve games there really isn't much direct competition.

It is totally possible, although if you do not have a lot of playing time, it will most likely take you longer to progress in Vanguard.  The progression is a little bit slower, especially if you are trying to cap in the three spheres (adventuring, crafting and diplomacy).

However, there is never a shortage of things to do, and while there is plenty to keep you busy at all times, the one thing that might hurt your progression the most is lack of other players, for group content of course.

In any ways, Vanguard is a great game that is really easy to enjoy, just like LOTRO is/was (not sure how lotro is now that they announced FTP...heard lots of ppl left the game but haven't checked for myself).

Give it a try...there is always the free trial if you are unsure !

My views are mine and mine alone, but because I share them doesn't mean I agree with them or even understand what the heck I just said...

Having played both games yes you can enjoy both.  You will find a lot of stuff you solo in Vangaurd.  However the crafting system is very intuitive.  You just dont set yourself to craft then walk of to let it autocraft.

Personally even though I know vangaurd is rolling into one server and they don't have any dev support, and are on esentially life support at this moment.   It would be worth a try if you have not experianced it yet.

I liked vangaurd, but it had tons of bugs still does.  And it really is a ghostown so to speek.  The last time I logged in there was only the same 5 or 6 folks talking in the region channels.  And I played for hours without running into anybody.

So I am really not sure what type of gaming your into, but vangaurd is really not for a casual gammer, it was designed more for hard core gamers.

    TY for the replies =)

i'll try the game (downloading already), but i have two more questions.

What about performance ? i play lotro at maxed graphics (ultra mode i guess) and got a decent FPS.

    i'll i have problems in Vanguard ?

    i have a E8500 , HD 4850 and 2gb ddr2 ram.

Even after vanguard server's merge it feels empty ?

I played yesterday on my trail account and I saw a bunch of people on the Island and the chat seemed pretty busy (Busier than the chat on my LOTRO server).  I have a e6750, GTX260 and 3GB DDR2 of RAM and have all the settings cranked to the max and it runs fine for me.

    Vanguard is HUGE. Very HUGE!

So it makes sense to a certain point that the players will be lost in the game. And Vanguard's dungeons are also huge. It really is an amazing game world.

I would say that you will find Vanguard's performance more creaky than LOTRO. LOTRO is far more polished.

However, I think Vanguard is the better game given that it doesn't have instances. LOTRO is a far more polished game and is designed to lead you toward places. Vanguard "not so much".

The trial Island usually has a lot of people on it. I suppose it depends on your time of day but a few months ago it was very crowded.

There is an mmorpg guild called after hours. Since I haven't had the chance to do any game playing in a bit I don't know how they are doing but you might look them up. Splinki on this site seems very active in it.

I don't think so and here's the reason why...

The trial island creates a compressed, linear story that leads you up to the moment that you are then sent from the island. It's kind of fun and has very beautiful places but it is very small when compared to the rest of Vanguard, which is "HUGE".

So my guess is that people start Vanguard then go to the mainland and become lost. If they don't have their own internal compass to help them they might get frustrated.

For me Vanguard is an exploring game. I care nothing for my levels or my gear but I have found so many neat things when I have been able to play.

But I set those goals. I might take a quest or two but in general I'm more interested in discovering things. I don't require a quest giver to send me from one area to another.

Now, there are quests that will do this. But there are also many things for one to discover just on your own.

So the trial island will let yo try some classes (and there are some neat classes) and get a feel for the game. But you will not be prepared for how large the game world is until you step foot in it.

As far as the mainland being a ghost town, that's a yes and a no. I've noticed on the weekends there are many more people playing. You will see more of them in chat and perhaps some of the areas that are a bit more hub like.

You aren't going to see something akin to WoW's Stormreach or Lineage 2's Giran or LOTRO's Bree.

You will see players here and there but it feels more like a world to me than just herding players from one area to another.

Oh, and that's a thing that I like about Vanguard, the fact that some areas have mixed level content. you might get to close to something, not pay attendtion and "wham"  one shot.

So keep your wits about you.

I just started the game. The feeling is good, the world seems Huge even in the Trial isle, i just don't like the animations and mobs textures, those Hobogoblins looks awful =S

I'm playin as a Druid, but i'll try some other classes till the end of my Trial time. Lets see if  i'll get into it or not hehe

They're both games along the EQ & WoW route, but Vanguard is a slowburn in comparison to some of it's genre brethern. Which isn't a bad thing at all, make sure you bring a friend or two along. It's not a good place to be alone.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

There are other starter areas, like the cat people kathari if I remember right.  You might want to try one of them.  I found the mage area your talking about a bit hard for a starting class.

YOu might try the fighter ones they last a little longer.
