client download speed

cygnetsongcygnetsong Member Posts: 63

I have been at work today and haven't checked my computer, but last night I was only getting 0-30kbs download speed on the beta client.  I heard that maybe it should improve today.  Anyone know whether that's the case?  Otherwise, is there a workaround (i.e. opening certain ports, as some have said) to improve the download rate?  If someone knows the procedure for doing that in Win7, I would appreciate the info.

It has been going for 9h now on a 35 mbs connection i can get a 700meg file in about 15 min.

For a torrent based client download the speeds are horrendous and they are not capping my upload speed so like most users in NA it is saturating my download stream.

If this was a torrent i got from a website I would delete it and find a better one. It is averaging about 30 KBs bout as fast as a 56k connection......

I am sure they are busy but thats what makes torrent  distribution great the more you have the faster it goes....... so why isnt it going fast? My upload rate has been maxed sinceI opened the client so If it can max my upload the why will it only download @ 30 KBs.

Looking foreward to the game for sure but come on I dont get warm feelings when the updater takes 24h to download its updates.

How to DL as a torrent in Windows 7 !

Firstly keep your current download through the SE installer running

    Goto windows:

    My computer-> C: -> Users -> David (or whatever your name/folder is) -> My documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy 14 beta -> downloads -> ffxiv-beta ->

From here you will see a folder for each of the installers. The first folder is Bca2a~~~~

The large one that most people are trying to get is d96437e6, open this folder. Open the folder inside named "metainfo"

Here you will see the torrent file named H2010.07.12.2000

Open this file (i used Utorrent as my client) and set the place for it to the same as where we looked at the start of my post

    My computer-> C: -> Users -> David (or whatever your name/folder is) -> My documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy 14 beta -> downloads -> ffxiv-beta ->

    Don't select folder d96437e6

    now press/click ok.

You will now see that the entry in Utorrent says "checking xx.x%" and will works its way up to 100% at which point the download %age in Utorrent and the SE installer will match.

Now you can close the SE installer window by clicking the cancel button. You should now see better speeds for downloading.

Make sure DHT is on by going to (in Utorrent) Preferences->Bittorent:

    Enable DHT network

    Enable DHT on new torrents

    Enable Local peer discovery

Please be a good person, appreciate you have downloaded faster and therefore share what you have downloaded. Either keep Utorrent open for a while afterwards or reopen it for atleast a few hours sometime later on (when eating, when leaving your pc for some amount of time). We've helped you get it faster, you can help others get it faster.

    Guide by Evielar.

    Goodluck.

Feel free to copy and paste this, please keep the credits at the bottom smile

edit: make sure you have started the download in the SE client before opening in utorrent.

    Downloading in 300-700kb/s

Be aware of that it will not top 300-600kb/s right away, it will take some min.

    dl in 800kb/s atm

I still get very slow speeds with this torrent, and I also have the official SE tracker rejecting me. Someone told me to remove it from my tracker list, and now that its gone I don't know if that was the right thing to do or not. Either way it kept rejecting me.

    Any idea?

Y'all need to open your ports. Why are you here anyway? The test forums are million times better for asking questions related to the testing.

The Utorrent Fix  mentioned earlier in this thread works wonders. Give it a whirl.

I downloaded the file with utorrent but my ffxiv updater doesnt seem to recognize it.  What folder should the file be in and the folder is called d96437e6 correct or is it the patch folder?

    Thanks for any help.

I neglicted the fun part of the story where I spent 2 1/2 hours getting the dad-gum thing to be accepted by my firewalls. I hate my setup. I have BitDefender, which is pretty easy to configure, but I use FiOS and they INSIST that you have a router/modem, but the don't have any with wireless N, so I end up with a wireless router connected to a wireless router and then have to forward ports through everything. I finally figured out how to turn off the FiOS firewall and then things picked up to 500-1000 kb/s.

did you have utorrent download the file to the SAME folder used by the beta patcher?  if not, it only sees the 98.6% incomplete file it was downloading earlier.  you need to right click the torrent in utorrent and select open containing folder, then cut/copy the 4 gb or so .patch file into documents > my games > ... > patch folder used by the beta patcher.  now it should recognize the whole file and you'll be good to go.

Took me 27 hours to download the client on my 30mb connection (all ports were open, I placed my computer on a DMZ to insure that wasn't the issue). Quite annoyed by the whole process. Then I booted up the game to find that Beta 3 had demolished Nvidia performance (all cards, not just one specific generation).

Still, game looked interesting, hopefully all this technical bullshit gets cleared up before launch. I need a new MMO to tide me over until TOR.

I will say I was annoyed to find all the fanboys for this game were wrong. It's not fully voiced, only cutscenes. My first hour in the game it was 95% reading, 5% voiced.

  • twruletwrule Member Posts: 1,251

Yeah, took me a good day and a half (leaving my comp on all night for 2 nights) to update the client.  I am pretty sure I spent about half that time actually playing it lol.

  • tikt4evertikt4ever Member Posts: 16

I'm also fluctuating like crazy.  Sometimes, I'll get as high as 270 KBps and then the torrent will slowly kill the speed of whoever is giving that to me and it will dwindle to 0.  This has cycled for over a day now and only netted me 82% of the download.  It averages about 20 KBps I think.  I've tried everything from forwarding ports to even putting my computer in a DMZ, and even that didnt work.  Also, the track01.ffxiv.com tracker gives that failure message about not working for the download.  Anything I can do to get a decent CONSTANT speed?  I'll seriously be content with 50-60 KBps...

At this point it might not be worth worrying about the download. This phase of the beta is going to end in 2 days...
