Ive never been a fan of the FF games but I like the races myself.  Its a fantasy game after all. I dont think ive ever played a human character in a fantasy MMO.  Im a bit tired of elves and dwarves so something different is welcome, to me anyway.

WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

This is a very good point. Much like grind is a fundamental part of AION and some people really don't like that. That isn't (and shoudln't, yes, shouldn't) change because that is a fundamental part of the game. Some like it and some don't; so too the racial choices and their basis in FFXIV.

What is off topic about what I said?

    Playing | GW2
    Wanting | Pantheon
    Watching | Crowfall
Retired | WAR, Cabal, MO, CO, SHK, WoW, FFXIV: ARR

Seriously? How was that off topic? He stated the obvious for those who were looking too deep to notice. If you simply dont like the way they look then dont play.

Anyway you slice it its FF Online a more updated version but still final fantasy online. I can see your point in wanting more races to pick from, but are the Clyran part of this version of FF or FFXI? How can you request for something that is not part of the lore at all? Yes I understand they could of built it in but they did not so deal with it. As other's said dont like it dont play it. We see these types of post all the time some one complaining that they dont like the direction the company took the game, well tough! And the game has not started it is in beta so you have that thing called 'choice' its a wonderful thing I got a help that gives me +1 to choice and I chose to play the game when it comes out since I like the series. Call me a fanboy all you want, but the world would seem all screwed up if you introduced some new race that just did not fit. The game could not be a continuation of the series if it had a race that was not in FFXI and if the race is there well I never saw it.

Now who the heck wants to see a poor moogle go out and get beat up, there like tedybears....

Now if they would of made the beastmen playable that would of been interesting. I want to be a big turtle dude!

This wasn't a post with an unltimatum style rant poised.

The OP presented his case and asked a reasonable question. He never at any point said "if they don't add more races I won't play" or insinuated as such.

The 'don't like it don't play' posts add NOTHING to the conversation when someone asks why. He probably won't play for that reason, I suspect a lot of people who played XI for a bit and got tired of it might have the same feeling.

The discussion was about theory, not about paying a sub or not. Perhaps someone who didn't agree with the OP could have presented their reasoning as to why the choice at keeping things familiar was a great one.

Rather, pointless flaming that was OFF TOPIC.

Different world from FFXI, if the names of the races could've change then they could have added more races.

Or better yet rather than recycle the same crap took on the futuristic style like most people were hoping for and presented something new. Not rehashed, and even originally, mostly generic races.

I do agree about the Elvaan/Elezen. Just once, a game in which the elves have merely pointed ears rather than giant goblin ears would be nice.

Though WAR kind of did it, I guess. Almost. They're still large, but at least they're flattened against the head.

The problem is small details get lost in the shuffle which is why you get exagerated features.  It is extremely rare to get a close up view of either your character or another character during the majority of the game.  Distinguishing an elf by slightly pointed ears and not much else presents most people with such a meaningless choice that it probably generates more annoyance than exagerated ears that say "yo I'm an elf."  Still think the elves are uncomfortably disproportionate in this game though.  I usually reserve that just for the tiny or short races, but in this case /shudder.

    Trolling doesn't either.

They asked a question which was off topic and I answered a questiont that yes, obviously you're a genius, I responded to off topic. If you question if my previous posts were off topic, then good on ya- you forgot to provide any reasoning as to why. Does being stupid hurt? If not, it should.

"They asked a question which was off topic." Really..... -.- And he asks does being stupid hurt... No, you just want a term paper done as to why Square Enix made their avatars the way they did. He (Folby) provided, in my mind a very clear and easy way to over come that. DONT PLAY. Then, Grump went on to provide you with an example but you were so mistified as to someone would disagree with you that you compeletly missed the point! Or do you simply insult every person you come across that doesnt agree?

Ok, ON TOPIC. Why would anyone on this board be able to begin to try to explain to why Square Enix created their avatars the way they did? 1.) In my opinion, that person would have to work for Square which I doubt they post here much. 2.) Why in the hell would someone try to speculate, (Cause that is exactly what they would be doing) as to the reason's why Square Enix created the Avatars as they did. I got a great answer and its below.

"Regarding ties to Final Fantasy XI, although some of the races will be similar the world will be very different. They have made the races similar in FFXIV to FFXI so that FFXI players can related better to the characters."

    http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/47877/Square-Enix-E3-Press-Conference-Reveals-Final-Fantasy-XIV-Online-Details

I do believe someone wrote that previously in this particular thread. But again, you were so adamant about why something was "well said" rather than sticking to the topic!

So you stopped reading because he made a grammar/spelling mistake? Watch out everyone, the grammar natzi is here. Your contribution to this thread was amazing.

Edit: I have a problem with the child race too, so thanks to the ones trying to explain why it's in the game.

OP is an obvious troll never returning to this ridiculous post.  Let's not get all emotional and argue about this.  IMO the races are amazing.  In yours maybe they aren't.  That doesn't mean we need to feed this troll either way.

Exactly. FF games were well known for their mixture of fantasy and high tech worlds. So disappointed when FFXI did the typical medieval world like every other mmo at the time. And they're doing the same with this now.

actully its going to be high tech compared to ffxi like inbetween ffxi and ff13 tech wise

I was hoping for "new" races.  I remember seeing pics of a horned race in concept art (the one in the bar/tavern that got everyone speculating as to what races would be available).

I'm also kind of sad that we won't see the male "mithra" and the female "galka".  Awww... well, we'll see.  Maybe more races will open up kind of like how they rolled out the first set of advanced jobs with FFXI.  When FFXI came out in Japan, I believe advanced jobs didn't get released until 6months or so after its initial release.

  • neKrowneKrow Member UncommonPosts: 170

Sorry you dont like the races.

I am ok with them I guess. my only problem is that its kind of confusing have races so similar to FFXI yet having different names.

LOL, sorry Bureyku but I work for a living and also have a large family, so I am not always available to monitor my posts.  I didn't realize so much responsibility was required for posting in such a prestigious website. :P

    That being said:

Thanks to everyone for your participation in this thread.  I have now learned alot about the background of the racial choices now and understand that they are what they are.  One of my opinions about MMOs is that what makes them truly enjoyable is the quality of players you spend time with and if these thread responders are a representation of those who will play I am looking forward to playing alongside all of you.

Way to take things out of context -- we all speak english here so we can assume we are referring to North America if not Europe.  To take from the same article you quoted:

"The PC version was released in North America on October 28, 2003, and the PlayStation 2 version on March 23, 2004. In Europe, only the Windows version was released, on September 17, 2004."

The game as we all know it has only been out for 6.7 years.

YES, launch date absolutely matters where I am, especially IN THE CONTEXT of when someone was asking me where I was 8-9 years ago.  And in the context of North America, YOU ARE WRONG as it was launched first on PC just like they are doing this time.

Aion has only been out for less than a year.  Again, bringing up facts about what is going on in the other side of the world is pointless as this site is a Western website and forum.
