Ahh I  had a bunch of stuff typed but this pos desktop messed up on me.  Blastid, any who

What I Was talking about is how alot of people still play aion but I think most of the current player base comes in the form of private servers.  I seen one site with 2000 private servers.  Thats alot of players not using official.  While North american servers had to be merged I think mostly in part because of the private servers.  Aion is still #2 in subscribers with probubly around 4 million subsribers and god knows how many private server players playing the game.  Aion is my favorite game and I recommend it to everyone that asks about it.

There is a pay by the hour service in asia, not in the americas.  You could always get an account in asia and change the client over to english(iv done this already) and pay by the hour through paypal, youd of course have to exchange rate your money to korean/china currency but im sure its possible.   Even though its possible to do this, its not very logical because you will have to deal with far distances for packet loss/ping/ms and while I actually had a great connection across seas (I live in central usa) you might not be the same.

I enjoyed Aion. It is a decent game. I only played it for a few months though. I have thought about resubbing but I am not in the market for an MMO ATM.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

I only played it for a month, but it was one hell of a month.  I ended up needing a new harddrive in my laptop and I just never got around to replacing it.  My free month ended on december 25th, lol!

Subs are low. The fact they're merging 14 servers down to 4 proves this.

    Still worth playing though?

Any way should i worry about them shutting game down or will they go free play most likely like lord of rings online is soon?

Yeah, the hey day of this game has definitely passed.  The server merge will definitely help the dwindling population.  People may be able to find groups now.

They won't shut down, even Lineage I is still up and running. And NCSoft doesn't turn their games into "F2P".

So i guess it's good then since game will be more populated now with 4 servers that are high in population instead of 14 with none being populated.

Hacking and grinding basically killed this game. (yeah, NCsoft, no one saw that one coming /rolleyes)

They had to merge servers, but I know a few people who still play it.

    It's basically dead in NA.

Then what is a good mmo with good graphics i don't want game looks like wow.

It all depends on if its worth paying the money to keep the game up and running.  Aion was originally the next Linage game. But they decided to change the name during development for some unknown reason.

Anyways NCSoft isn't afraid to shutdown a game that isn't bringing in money for the company.  Just look at Auto-Assault, Tabula Rasa, ect.

As far as Aion having 4 million subscriptions...  Maybe world wide, but the north american servers are very very far from that. Going from 14 servers to 4 servers would suggest 100k-250k subscriptions, somewhere in that range.  The gmae use to be a huge grindfest from mid game onward and the pvp was anything but balanced when someone 5 to 10 levels higher can enter the same zone as you and wipe you without even putting up a effort.. Things might have changed with the last few patchs, but as far as the game goes the damage has already been done.

I know theres more private server north american players then north american official players by just looking at the volume of private servers on the net.  This is the only reason why aion has had to merge servers in North american and Europe.  Aion is the privarte server king, even puts wow to shame in this category.

well there is Age of Conan. Has some of the best graphics in a MMO.

It's not as bad as everyone says it is. I love it.

Some people like to point to the server merges tomorrow and a sign that they game is dying, this isn't necessarily accurate.  They launched with what they anticipated would be an adequate number of servers, but the servers got hit much harder than they had accounted for and there were ques that lasted hours.  So they added extra servers.

More subs than anticipated= the need for more servers than they anticipated                 <-got it?

After nearly a year there has been enough of a reduction in numbers that the extra servers are no longer needed.  However the question should be, is the current number of subs a huge reduction, or does it simply put the game in line with original estimates?

I've tried out two servers since returning, Siel and Ariel, and both servers seem busy.  The population issue with Aion right now isn't due to not enough players, but too many players rolling Elyos.  One of the reasons the mergers were necessary, is to try to smooth out the population differences between the two races.

If you do decide to give the game a chance, I would suggest that you look for a friend invite so you can get the extra goodies that come with that.  I'd offer and invite myself but I'm currently maxed out on invites.

edit:  Age of Conan is also a good one if graphics are important to you.  I could even send you an event if you like.

In my opinion, no. There's some fun to be had in Aion, but to get to the fun you are continually punished by Korean design philosophy. Korean developers will never learn. You can't simply port a game to NA with no changes or support and expect it to do well. I like Aion, but I can't overlook the fact that there will never be development for the western audience. If you like Korean grind then you'll like Aion.

No, I doubt it will shut down. At least until FFXIV, TOR, Cataclysm, Tera, and GW2 are on the market. There's really nothing worth paying a sub for at the moment. WoW or AoC would be the only two I would consider. Everybody is waiting for their MMO to go live and passing the time with what we have now.

Could someone send me invite to aion then if they have one?

I would like try it out...

Aion had the same problem that Warhammer did - they had to open up a bunch of extra servers at launch to handle the load, and once the sub numbers stabilized, they had far more than they needed. This is a pretty common occurrance. If I remember correctly, there were originally only six launch servers, so to me four servers should leave all four with pretty high numbers.

I'm personally looking forward to it. It should increase pvp in the Abyss and the number of instance groups running, which is always a good thing.

Also, those of you who act as though Aion is in its death throes are deluding yourselves - most estimates put it the top five MMOs in NA, sometimes as high as #2. It's not going to die anytime soon, especially given that Aion's success is completely independent of the US market.

i played aion from beta to about 6 month's after launch.. i found a lot of really enjoyable aspects of the game.. i stopped playing bacause of the constant grind the game became after level 40.. i found myself trying to talk myself into playing the game rather then looking forward to playing thye game.. did any of the new patches change this ? i'm suspecting not because the core design of the game seems to be a grind.. just curious? if any one could elaborate i would appreciate it

I played from launch to about 6-7 months out.  Got a 50 cleric in full fenris.  Then had to quit out of boredom.  There's stuff to do, but it is extremely repetitive.  I went back a little while ago and everyone I knew had left and all the top guilds when I originally played there were empty.  I am sure plenty of people still play the game, but many of even the most dedicated players left.  Also the whole game was a grind.  It was struggle to 50 and earning full fenris was even worse.

They've added rested experience as well as another boost that kicks in if the system doesn't feel your progressing fast enough (haven't figured out the mechanics of this).  They have also boosted the experience from higher level quests.

The game is still a bit grindy, but far better than it was at launch.

cool .. thanks for the info.. i know when i left. several others had left also or were right behind me .. i just couldn't stay interested in the constant grinding of repeatable kill quests.. i left wow for the same reason.. doing daily quests/ running the same instances over and over was mind numbing... and i had no desire to start anymore alts
