WoW loses 70% of free trials before level 10

one of the things they are trying to fix, and I think is a good thing, is that early combat is repetitive because you get so few cool abilities.

Hunters are the perfect example.  A person comes to WOW and they want to play a pet class.  That person then spends 10 levels getting 1 or 2 ranged attacks off before having to melee.  Where are the pets?  not until lvl 10.

It is great that they are moving more abilities down to the 1-9 levels, and adding a very signature ability at lvl 10.

I don't think many people use the WOW trial accounts though.  It is very limited and most people who use trial accounts never intend to play.  There are so many more robust free trials out there, and games like DDO that allow players to play a good game for free. (and soon lotro).

The only thing that matters though is that WOW still has no pve servers that have low populations.  This has remained constant for the last 5 years.  There are still queues for months after an expansion, and sometimes for weeks after a major patch.

I thought most trial accounts were lost because they have to delete the accounts of gold spammers.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Yeh but other MMOs probably lose 95%

This really isn't surprising to me, and I don't think it's useful to draw any conclusions from. Gold sellers had a small army in Stormwind spelling out their website using dead bodies. How many of these trials do you think are gold spammers? I'd wager that there's a lot of level one trials who do nothing but stand in SW and promote their RMT business. It's free advertising. All you have to do is continue making new e-mail addresses and get another trial account.

DDO would be keeping more then 3 out of 10 that reach level 2.5. That's what we're talking about if you want to look at equivalent level ranges.
