Non Cancelers

I was talking to a buddy of mine about his WoW account. He doesnt play WoW, hasnt for 6 months, but he still pays. I told him he should cancel and he says " Well I still get on from time to time". After talking, over the past 6 months he had played maybe 5 hours. I said you paid ~ $90 for 5 hours of gameplay? The question is, the characters are stored on a server, they dont go away. I logged into an old DAOC account from 9 years ago and it still had all my chars on it. So why don't people cancel accounts when they have run their course, are we lazy? Too well off? Just curious for those on the boards that have WoW accounts but dont play them at all or more than an hour a month.

I did this for soem time with EVE. Just kept paying to keep levelling but not really interested in playing. Then finally I had a moment of clarity and quit in an instant.

Probably ought to quit Aion as I'm playing less than 10 hours a month now. Not really worth it as I can't see a future in the game. I quite liked the game, but have got stuck in my mid forties and cannot be bothered to keep running Steel Rake.

Well, I do this all the time.

I currently pay for LOTRO and Vanguard but haven't really logged on in a bit.

I pay for when I have the chance to play. I could cancel but then I would constantly be going into the account and subbing and then canceling and subbing, etc.

For me it's like cable TV. One might not watch everything or even watch it that much but when you want to watch it it's there.

The amount of money is very small for the convenience. If I know that I have no plans to go back to a game (ever) then of course I cancel.

    My buddy does this...

I'm like "why not cancel your subscription?"...

he says "I never know when I might wanna play."

He might play for 3 hours in a month.... spend most of that time gathering herbs....

I have done that many times. I enjoy EverQuest 2 a lot but I have had a month or two between logins in the past just because other stuff held my interest more for that period of time.

Similar situation here. I have the SOE Station Pass. I maybe play a few hours of one or two SOE MMOs each month, if that much, but the value for the convenience and the time playing is worth it for me.

As long as I am still playing the game regularly or somewhat regularly I stay subscribed. However, as soon I stop logging I cancel my account. Kept an account on Battleground Europe once for a month or two after one of the bouts I stopped playing it but that was simply because I forgot to cancel :S

And again, the amount of money is really small compared to many other avenues of entertainment.

movies are 10+ dollars here for 90 minutes to 2 hours plus.

dinner? for me it will be 50+ to 150+ dollars for both me and my girlfriend depending on whether we go to a regular restaurant or something fancy.

Museum? Suggested donation could be up to 20+ dollars

    Aquarium? 21.95

So if I play an mmo for 2 hours per month then I'm still getting something for my money. And if suddenly my schedule frees up then I can play all day. Bonus Baby!

either way just pushing at whats your money worth, and am no better than the OPs friend, hardly log in on EQ2 atm...5 hours this month aint far off the truth, could easy have had cancelled the sub for the past 1.5  -2 month.

when games become more of a bad habbit than fun for the dollars... ;)

As long i play at least 2 hours a week i feel quite ok with an active subscription.

Recently i have cancelled my last sub as i do not longer play even that few hours.
