Addons / Skins?

PallytimePallytime Member Posts: 109

First off, I know the game is still in beta. There may be NDA restrictions on the matter and I'm not asking anyone to break NDA. I was just wondering if there has been any conformation or any indication that XIV will be able to support 3rd party addons. Similar to WoW. I know it's a matter of taste to some degree but, when done correctly addons can add a lot to a game IMO. I just haven't seen any interviews on the matter and I was hoping for some insight from the community. <3

I doubt it, because it is coming to the PS3 as well.

Plus we don't know if we are really going to need them yet.

I know it's not an MMO or anything but games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion were both console games that allowed the use of third party content on the PC versions. Which is why they were always much better on PC imo. That isn't the same type of "addon" but I think it's still a valid point.

i dont think SE adressed this issue yet

but i assume that SE will have the same policy used in ffxi

third party addons are not allowed (offcially) but SE wont punish anyone using them unless its game breaking addon

my punches are as strong as kicks

If the UI elements aren't floatable we will need addons. One of the best thing WoW was ability to customize UI heavily. Hopefully they can make UI flexible and allow customizing. I don't mind if they won't allow silly addons but UI customizing is must.

Even something as simple as moving bits of the UI around can make a big difference in a players ability to be aware of what's going on around them. If a healer on a large resolution has to look at the top right of their screen to heal their party / raid, it could be challenging to see if they're standing in something that's killing them :p

They've already confirmed that you can move everything around the screen as you choose, but there won't be any official add-ons or reskins.

Oh I agree with you here, I do hope the UI is customisable in FFXIV without the need of addons.

Anyway WoW much better with addons... I couldn't live without a bar mod and replace Player/unit frame

I think they allow you to do too much with mods in WoW.

Custom Player/unit frames and movable/extra bars/buttons/bags/minimap are fine... anything past the is probably too much

I think threat and DPS meters are alright also. I can't help but feeling that things like, Deadly Boss Mods take away from raiding a bit though.

I dont know a lot of the addon's took away from the game (WoW). It kind of ruined it, took away the suprice and all that, takes away from having any skill at all in the game, sure you should know what the fight consist of to a degree but you should not need an addon to tell you what to do!
