Questions from a potential new player

DengarDengar Member UncommonPosts: 34

Been looking into this game since I have severe doubts about the new SW MMO (which is sounding like ME meets WoW with lightsabers), but my main question is about end game. I have 0-no interest in raiding. Crafting and helping with cities and PvP is my thing. From my understanding, this game does have instancing, but are they raids? And do I have to do them every week in order to be competitive? What is the end game really about?

Also, are player cities destructable? If so, what are the rules on this? Can individuals own houses, and can these also be detroyed? The same question applies to mounts/vehicles. Are mounts and pets always with you, or can they perma-die, like in Darkfall?

Thanks!

but are they raids? - Don't think anyone really calls them that, but there is something similar with the high level quest chains (i.e. one I did involved going onto a Star Destroyer? and having to fight our way to the Pilot house)

And do I have to do them every week in order to be competitive? - You don't ever have to do them.  Only reason is to get the shinies if you defeat the mission be it jewerly, titles or what not.  Kind of depends on what you hold 'competitive' to mean.  The jewerly you get from the high level quests will give armor pluses, buffs etc... so you'd be better off in Pvp fights.  Other than that or just being able to say 'I got my set' why bother?

What is the end game really about? - Still being a semi-sandbox game that's really up to you.  Found a city & be it's mayor.  Create an Entertainment guild.  Be the Nr. 1 space fighter and play 'King of the Mountain' at the zero's in DS.  While not everyone agree's it's good content, SOE has atleast provided a lot of content for the high levels to do.

Also, are player cities destructable? - No

Can individuals own houses, - Yes

and can these also be detroyed? - No.  Not by combat.  Mayors do have a city clean up function they can use but it doesn't really 'destroy' it as in 'your stuff is toast', all it does is place it back in your inventory.

The same question applies to mounts/vehicles. Are mounts and pets always with you, or can they perma-die, like in Darkfall? - Pet's I'm not sure but I think perma-die.  Vehicles are a big yes for perma-dieing.  Anyone dumb enough to ride their vehicle into combat can pretty much count on someone shooting it out from under them.

Pets do no perma-die, but they can lose their 'effectiveness', which can be regained via more combat and pet foods. Many crafter-made vehicles can be perma-disabled which means you will need to buy a new one from a crafter. There are some crafted and bonus (from sales or pre-oders) vehicles that can be fully  repaired at a NPC or player city garage for a set amount of credits if they become disabled.

I would suggest you try a free SWG trial before financially committing to this game.

Yeah, free trial is currently the plan. Just gotta make sure I start it up when I have a lot of time.

Ok, new question. I noticed that the game guides for Bounty Hunters and Smugglers seems to indicate that they have access to special quest types (bounties on players for BH and contraband for smugglers). Do other professions have things like this as well?

(from memory...or Pre NGE) there are mission terminals scattered around the cities.

Artisan terminal :  gives off crafting missions

Bounty Hunter terminal:  Gives off missions to BH only.  Involves tracking down and killing a single mob (can be on other planets)

Mission terminal:  Everyone can grab these ones.  All are kill the creature lair for XP (they are usually 1-2k from your location)

That is all that i can remember but i am sure there was 1 or 2 other terminals out there.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
