something I liked about FFXI was how people from all different places were mixed together and its too bad FXIV wont be that way but to move on to my question..

I'm buying the EU version but I'll be living in Australia next year for some time and therefore I was wondering if there are any australians here who play on eu servers in mmo's and could share whether it works fine or if its almost unplayable.

Thanks.

It will be like ffxi. Where did you heard that it will be different?

Think it was a couple of months ago that I read someone saying that they changed that... and some people said they were sad that they wouldnt get to do the translation messages anymore like.. <Critical blow> <Job> <You need?> ... and stuff like that...

I really hope thats not something I just remember from a dream or something... well actually it would be nice if it was since then I would be wrong that it isnt like that anymore ^_^

Well the NA, European and Japanese players will play together in FFXIV like in FFXI. That's settled.

Q: Will launch and servers be global? Tanaka: Yes, we will launch simultaneously in all regions, in English, Japanese, German and French, on both the PS3 and PC platform. Whether we will continue to have global cross region / cross platform servers remains to be seen. Players tend to congregate and play with each other, so we may designate language preferred servers. But for now, they will remain the same as FFXI

I remember reading this and for some reason I left the computer thinking that day that it wouldnt be the same O.o ... but anyway, thats great news for me, thanks for correcting me  ^_^

I'm not sure if this matters to you, but based on what you quoted in your post, I'd like to point out that that information isn't entirely accurate anymore.

Yes, servers will not be region specific, so to your initial inquiry, there will be no problems with you playing with Japanese, NA, or Euro people. The difference from the quote however is about the launch. Currently, the game is set to launch on September 30, with people buying the collector's edition being able to get that on September 22. The ps3 version isn't coming out until March 2011.

No, servers are not region-locked.. at least for now. Maybe people are misunderstanding this:

"Square Enix accounts are region-specific(Japan/North America/Europe), and service accounts cannot be added to other regions.

Please be certain to select a product from the same region as your Square Enix account when purchasing FINAL FANTASY XIV or the FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition." http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/#/about/game_info (scroll down)

What that probably means is if you buy the North American game version, and try to log in with a European Square-Enix account, you won't be able to play.. that's about it, servers don't have anything to do with it.

Even then you could just make a new account and pick the proper region and play fine.. so what's the point of region-specific accounts?

Language options.  With the US version its English, EU has English, French, Spanish? and German, and of course Japan is Japanese.

    Region-lock is bullshit.

Let every man and woman decide where in the world they want to play.

We aren't little toddlers you know that needs to have our decisions already made for us.

And the high latency argument doesn't fly, let the people decide for themselves if they want to put up with a higher latency or they could get a faster internet connection.

And the language argument doesn't fly either, if the french, spanish or whatever doesn't want to type in english then they can form their own little cliques.

English is the world language and you just have to embrace it.

Ummm, there is no region lock, and we can decided where we want to play, and can type in whatever language we wish; no matter what version.

Its just if you buy ^^said version thats what language the game content will be displayed in....rofl  Thus if you want to play the game with everything displayed in Japanese but wish to type english then buy the Japanese version, and if you want the content to display the game in the 3-4 languages from EU, you buy that version, or if you only want the content in English buy the US version!

I'm just saying that it's bullshit not that FF14 has got it.
