Same thing as SL basically, except with alot more potential. Keyword: potential. Right now it's junk, but it's still early development and only time will tell if it succeeds. It does have a client out though, granted it's barely usable, but there is a client. Their developer client has much more work put into it than the game client does. They need content before they need players.

The absolute main thing that sets it apart from Second Life, is the fact that people will be able to create full fledged games. FPS, Flight Sims, etc. etc. The code and environment are much more flexible. In SL, people are only able to create things that basically pretend to be games.

Personally, I'm hoping that Blue Mars will become what Second Life should have been from the get go and from what I've been gathering from loosely keeping up with it, that's exactly what the developers are trying to do. Blue Mars is a Metaverse and if they succeed, they will bring them where they should be at already. Metaverses, could absolutely be the next evolution in Online Gaming (MMOs) & Social Networking (Facebook), once they get the footing they need. I love Second Life, but to me it's more of a stepping stone into something greater.

    Keyword potential - agreed!

I'm watching BM closely, but their strict 'nothing too offensive' rules seem to be limiting the appeal for the majority at the moment.
