The STAR

I've been using this gun for over a week and I came to conclude that it's a terrible gun.

Clan mates are suddenly raging with me because I'll have to be forced into close combat and end up failing because the STAR is bad upclose.

Normaly when I see a target, I run to get my distance and I'm able to take out ntec and ocas no problem. But sometimes I have to capture points and I end up being rocked by OCAs, shotguns, and Ntecs.

I told my clan leader it's a skilled gun and you just have to get used to it in order to rack kills with it. He just keeps saying it's a bad gun to begin with and claims he used rapid firing 3 and savage 3 in beta and it still sucked.

What are your thoughts?

I don't see many people using it, and I think there's good reason.  Some of the weapons are a bit unbalanced currently, that's the problem.  Everyone and their mother uses OCA's and NTec's.  I personally use the Obeya.  I found that at medium to long range, it handles just about everything.  Only when I come up close am I put at a disadvantage.  I can even take out snipers because of it's range.  I generally use a machine pistol up close and I eat up a lot of ammo when I have to take objectives.  If you have a good team, they will recognize the importance of versatile weaponry.  Hopefully RTW looks at the weapons and makes a few tweaks.

I use different guns for different occasions.  For most run and gun in groups I mostly go with the Ntech Nol.  For special occasions I'll whip out my sniper 'Hilltop'.

When I'm playing solo, again it's the Ntech, but also I am doing decently with the less than lethal rifle.  I haven't had much luck with the shotgun, but I haven't really practiced with it.

For my secondary I'm going with the Colby I think it's called.  I just switched to it recently because I noticed I keep getting killed by it.  I'm also experimenting with the the nonlethal 'Pig' which I heard was overpowered.  It does hella stun damage but you have to be really, really close to your opponent.  The Colby on the other hand is good close to medium range and does pretty good health damage.

For grenades I'm using the concussion.  They have a delay though.  I think percussion and frag don't have delay.  Stun I'm not too sure about.  I just starting using them.  I did stun a guy with one grenade toss though, it was great :)  Unfortunately the match was over as I ran up to him.

Also, I've tried short controlled bursts with the ntech, but that doesn't seem to work for me.  Supposedly you are supposed to do short controlled bursts...but if I do that they usually end up killing me instead.

If anyone has any pointers or suggestions I'd love to hear them.  I would say overall I guess I am doing average.  It's hard when you have to take an objective and the enemy is dug in with a good sniper.  I've died so many times.   Usually when I start feeling bad though I look at how many times my team mates die and I am alright.  I still don't like dying though...

I don't like the STAR.  In my opinion, this game has way too fast of respawn times and way too much close-quarters combat to effectively use medium/long range weapons.  That's why I believe you see so many people with NTecs and OCAs.

If you could make up for close-quarters with a crazy pistol, I could see the STAR being more viable, however, I think an Obeya would be a better choice for a mid-range weapon.

I'm of the opinion that you should use what you enjoy playing with.  Find a new guild.
