I'm torn between carrying a main weapon and either extra ammo for the squad or a sentry gun. Extra ammo is always nice, but I do love me some sentry gun.

I figured out a way to cool down my grphx card so I've been playing =) The tech is a ton of fun, but I'm stuck being a healer as usual =) My name on steam is aeroangel if anyone wants to group up and kill some aliens.

Glad to hear you figured out the issue with your graphics card. I was having an issue a few months back where Source engine games would constantly overheat my card constantly. Finally got it resolved, thankfully.

I'll throw you an add on Steam later. Been wanting to kill Aliens with someone other than randoms and all my Steam friends have full games, can't connect to me, or don't want to play when I want to :(

Hmm how did you get it resolved? I'm very curious. I've just rigged up a fan to cool my card and it helps, but it does seem like steam likes to make my card all hot and bothered. lol

I am very impressed here as soon as i get home i will download this gem.

Hah, enlighten me as to what is wrong with steam?

Well for the start, it doesn't do anything, it's useless. Even then, it launches automatically by default at computer startup, it messes up your registry - I had to use registry cleaner and CCleaner to found its bits when I de-installed it. It has its own service that loads up to memory apparently for no reason - even after you uninstalled it. So again, I had to use hijack this to remove it.

In the end, it's useless code with the following traits: slows down your computer, messes up your registry and is very hard to uninstall it without additional cleaning programs like those I used.

I've used Steam since CS 1.6 debuted on it. CCleaner finds bits of everything in the registry. Steam isn't the only thing to leaves bits around after being uninstalled in the registry. And it doesn't harm it in any way.

However, if you want it to not startup when your computer boots up, either uncheck it in the program or run "MSCONFIG" and take it off startup. Problem solved in under 20 seconds.

Anyways, it's a decent title. It's free. Granted it plays like any other attackinmasswave title, it's still polished and loads of fun.

Exactly the advice i was about to give before I saw this post .Msconfig is great to get rid of unwanted start up programs . I've used it a number of times of friends computers that were running slowly and its helped no end .

    how to use it ...

Click start bottom left of window . select the run option . type msconfig , when the relevent box comes up select start up programs and then simply select what you dont want to run and click disable . (don't worry about disabling important programs as you can restart them manually and things like my mcaffee dont disable anyway)

Hope that helps . Simples .

At first I actually just took the side of my case off and hooked up a small fan, which helped it bunch. Not long after an update was released by ATI for my card. Installing the driver initially didn't fix it completely, tho, had to mess around in Catalyst for a little bit to get it completely situated.

  • I'll have to look you guys up the next time I play. I'm noticing alot of people online have no concept of squad teamwork. Lots of people just rush ahead, pay no attention to what's behind the squad, and run in front of other players when they're actively shooting. It's a really fun game with a good team to work with.

And no one seems to want to play a medic. It's wierd, I enjoy the role and play it with no complaint. I guess everyone wants that minigun....

Well I've tried pretty much all that except I have a Nvidia.. Thanks for the tips anyway, guess I'm just going to have to wait until I get a new computer to have a carefree gaming experience lol.

Ew, yeah. My problems were ATI related, like every other problem I ever have.

Oh yeah I found a fix for my specific brand of computer last night, it had something to do with the fan speeds or voltage or something I'm not quite sure, but anyway no more overheating!! *cheer* Played a match of alien swarm last night completely lag free, it was beautiful.

  • I have to say I love the tesla cannon. No chance of friendly fire, super ammo-efficient, stuns and arcs across multiple enemies. It's perfect for me when I play a medic, since I usually watch the rear and can turn and fire over the heads of my comrades. Actually I like it when I play tech as well, since I like to carry a sentry gun with me.

I had a long post (well, long for me) created then I hit the wrong key combination. Here's a synopsis of that post.

My Nvidia 9800 GT overheated a lot. I kept drivers updated with no improvement. I RMA'd the card but never sent it in. I then upgraded from Win XP to Win 7 and the subsequent driver update. Since then my graphics card hasn't overheated once and I have been able to increase the graphics quality in most of the games I play.

I live in Texas and regularly see temperatures in excess of 95 in the room with my computer.
