what are you talking about i thought you just had rise sickness or something
I hope that's all it is. With only a 2-4 hours to play on a normal week night I don't want to spend all of my time regaining xp because some jackwagon went and agroed half the zone and pulled it back to camp. Even worse just taking a loss that night because the group was so bad.

If I understand it correctly, you won't be camping like you did in FFXI... they designed the game so you have to move around.

I'm sure said "jackwagon" could still manage to pull and link a zone full of mobs and wipe a party. I don't want to be punished for other peoples mistakes. Res sickness and running back is time lost and no xp being gained. That doesn't need to be amplified by further xp loss.
Correct on the whole got to move around thing, remember as of now they are stating that there will be no Mana regen, HP sure but no mana, only way to get your mana topped off is at the crystals around where you are at, the ones you use to start a leve, and not the same one you started the leve to begin with. Will have to wait and see what happens when the game comes out.

I haven't been able to follow this game as closely as I'd like, so if anyone knows, please inform. What's to stop a group from just camping near a crystal? Or just close enough that having the main mana users run back and refill only loses like 30 seconds (or can even be done between pulls)?
As for a death penalty, I hope it's at least harsh enough to worry about. Having a near non-existent death penalty is a let-down for me, since it doesn't give me an incentive to really push and try to survive mispulls or when things go sour. For me it's just kinda like "Oh, big mispull? *Shrug* Oh well. Oh hey, when I die, let me check the broker/auction house/bazarre/whatever real quick."
I don't know exactly what will prevent people from camping the crystals exactly. Once you use a crystal maybe it has like a refresh that has to go down before you use it again or maybe your party cant use it again period lol, I dont know. As for the death penalty I hope it's at least like FF 11 where your weakened for a few minutes a lose just a little exp. It really makes you think before you decide to pull that next monster.
With the whole no healer thing going, well they might not even have any penalty. Agreed that they should, makes you really try hard to stay alive. I am sure they will have a magic class that heavily invest in healing type magic and will act as a healer but how good will it be? I hope they do have a magic that allows you to use more healing spells then dps spells that way you can try harder leve's and all with a healer type caster or you might just be hosed and you will be forced to party with the 15 players to get the 5 star leve or what ever.
Cant wait to see how they did it! Hope they have a few things on it next month or even in the next few weeks, would be good to have some hard info on all that.
For you people that can play 8+ hours a day and have the hours to spend getting back your lost xp that might sound good. For the rest of the world that have Jobs, Family, and other responsibilities it doesn't make much since. To be honest I never really had a problem with it in FFXI but I don't think it's nessicary either and thankfully neither does SE (so it seams atm).
I don't have 8 hours to play either. I have to go to work. I have bills to pay too. I just think that rez sickness alone isnt enough. Trust me I know how much it sucks to finally get into a party and then just die 5 minutes later, and then keep dieing until I like de-leveled. Well, we'll just have to make it up later. I definately understand your concern though.

To me the down time waiting for rez sickness to go away and possibly running back to your party put's a halt on your progression through the game. Why would it be nessisary to be forced backwards? In my experience with FFXI even if the party didn't wipe but there was contnued down time due to deaths that was plenty enough to make a party disband or kick the individual that was causeing it.
I guess that could be enough. It would definately same some time when leveling. I dunno, it's just that when I died in FF11 I really felt a loss of something. Like in WOW( please i'm not trying to start something here, WOW is what im playing right now) when I die theres no feeling of loss it just feels like a nuisance to have to walk all the way back to your corpse and thats it. Oh I died again, i'll just walk back I suppose. NOw im not saying thats a bad game mechanic I just like the xp loss as well.

I can understand that however in wow when you die it rarely has mutch of an effect on the rest of your group. In FFXI if your grouped and you die everyone in the group is effected by this down time and has a tendency to piss them off. It's likely to have the same effect in FFXIV. On top of that your reputation seems to follow you on FFXI so if you suck that bad eventualy the whole server's going to know and then you get to stand around looking for a group. lol
Lol thats true. But if you did die while in a group with FF11 most of the time its not gonna be just your fault. Either the party got to close to a monster while they were already engaged with a diffrent monster or it could be that the party had bad luck and a certain spell was missed or maybe a tp move missed. id say that most of the time when a person dies and its really only there fault was if the puller accidentaly aggroed to many monsters and they took him out.

I've been in groups running quests or Assualts where people go running off on their own and get killed and pretty mutch ruin that run. Like I said the xp loss didn't really effect me too mutch in FFXI but I just don't think the extra punishment is needed....
I Do think the XP penalty kind of made the run from the begginer Zone to Jeuno for the chocobo license a bit more intence... but then again so did the distance you had to run and the fact that all the mobs could kill you just by breathing on you.
Maybe have an XP penalty but not as severe as they did in XI and please no deleveling cause that would suck really bad. Rez sickness I dont mind, if your playing for a while and if you die then its time to take a quick breather, go get some water or a smoke if you smoke or something, that way the group can re-group and get going. You know breaks are not a bad thing, what is a bad thing is dying every 5 minutes in any game you play.

If u r in a exp pt and u die than that's normally the fault of the whole pt.
I never had problems with a pt disbanding or a weakened member being kicked by a party if it wasnt the tank or healer who was dead we just went on and if it happened to be the healer or tank than we used the 5 mins for drink breaks or whatever u might have to do.
Beeing punished for dieing is (in my opinion) more important for the players who cant spend that much time in a game they just have less time than the hardcore players to learn the game and if they get a penalty that hurts for doing wrong they more likely try to play good which ultimately helps everyone.
It also always was more fun for me to explore knowing that the exp loss with lvl 75 will hurt i used to travel around a lot with a buddy (he rdm me blu) and we tried a lot of shit and the most fun in it was the knowledge that if we screw up it will hurt.
But besides this reasons the main reason for exp loss was really that even tho u had max lvl u weren't done with your job u plan on doing Dynamis and such stuff well better go get u a massive exp booster since u most likely will need it this way u had to focus on your job even tho u had the max lvl which i just always enjoyed really much.
Most of the time u died u get a raise anyway i mean come on if u r lvl 75 and u don't have enough buddy's who can come and raise ya u did something wrong lol (of course doesn't work all the time tho but fairly often)

There is a death penalty.
Yeah, but will it be oldfashioned and hard....
Noyhing like getting a party of ten while in your underwear to help you grab back your corpse from the bottom of a dungeon...
