IF YOU GET HACKED

 I was hacked 2 days ago due to not updating Adobe Flash Player I had to uninstall it and reinstall it for the update to work. I posted on the WoW.forums Tech support and did NOT bump my post once, I got my account back in less then 8 hours. The authicator is like what 10 bucks? even if I quit wow forever Im still getting one as I dont want any jerk gold farmer to ever benefit from my work again.

 

"EDIT" this only works if you can still access your account, they added an authenticator to my account but could not change the password/email etc. so i was able to change the password and login to post on my account on the WoW  tech forums. Too bad it was done late at night after they had stripped my toons and took my gold. This is the ONLY mmo Ive played where accounts get stolen so much and so often even people with authenticators have been hacked its insane.

Funnily enough, I just got my account back after it was stolen. I hadn't played since April of 2008, and was a bit surprised to see someone had started paying for the account in March of 2010.

So I wrote an e-mail to support. Proving the account was mine was easy enough, as I had always paid with the phone option ( only mmo I know that you can charge to your monthly phone bill lol ); and since my phone number is still the same, easy as pie along with other info given.

Got the account back immediately and then activated a WotLK 10 day trial on it so I could log in and assess the damage. Well, my highest level toon ( only level 58 ) was stripped, along with my other lower toons. But the funny thing is, there was one toon that I didn't make, I assume the one who took the account made it. So I log it in and what do I find? Over 1,000 gold. Guess he was using it as a mule for goldselling or something.  At the time I quit, I only had like 50 gold and all my gear was green. Anyway, I told Blizz it was fine, they didn't need to reimburse my items.

yah there really good about getting you the account back just wish it was harder for people to phish your info I have never had probs like this with any other MMO I've played guess its the overall popularity of the game.....Hope TOR isn't like this heh

How are your accts being hacked??

Torjan or are you giveing out your password to friends or what???

I have play off and on since beta and have never been hacked or anyone I know has.

Not flamming just want to know if you know how it happened.

Prime example players with non-subbed accounts are getting hacked that have dormant for years thus having a keylogger or downloading an addon does not hold water for accounts that have been dormant that long, chances are hackers have found a way to hack battlenet , note nothing in this world is not unhackable, my friend had same thing happen after the hacker logged off my friend had to re-sub and login to see the damage, blizzard could not explain how it happened, they said "that is impossible".

My friend only got hacked once and that is when the merge with battlenet had happened my guess during the changeover some data got crossed somehow someone got access to all usernames,passwords,authenticator codes or hacker found a vulnerablity and is using it to steal accounts.

Yes some may be due to bad addons with keyloggers or rootkit/trojan/keyloggers on ad sites but i scanned my friends machine on my shop test bench machine it was clean as could be.

Another way this could have happened but blizzard would never admit to it an inside job someone got fired/quit with access stole the userbase info and and sold it to goldsellers before he left that is possible not first time this has happened in business.
