FF XIV race question

keygankeygan Member Posts: 237

Is there any reason to be different races other than aesthetic?   Is one race better at being a caster class?, for example.  I know each toon can be all jobs and what not, but i was trying to pick a race out for release and was wondering if i need to consider more than what i know now....this will be my first FF game.

From what I've read, certain races excel at various jobs (like the light-skinned elves are better at archery than others) but I doubt the differences matter enough to really make a huge difference.  Your skill and equipment will matter a lot more than some bonus racial buff.

Will it limit u from being the best at something?  Should I just pick a race based on which I like the most?

Yup on the gear, the races while some might have a slight advantge at certain jobs are more normalized then they where in FFXI. In XI if you wanted to be a caster you might as well of picked the Taru-Taru since they had the best Int so they had large pools of mana, and if you wanted to be a caster forget picking a Galka hehe.

But if you are dead set on being a Caster look into the races more some have higher advantages then others.

I believe you get to pick and choose what stats get raised as you gain phisical lvls so there shouldn't be much of a difference.

In FFXI the races were only marginally better at certian things, people in that game battled over a +1 stat boosts (NM items for instance). It made only the slightest difference, but if that really matters to you, then you might want to plan accordingly.

Does that  +1 really equal a difference?  or is it more of a pissing contest of i have +1 more int than u?

Your race played a major roll in what you could excell at as far as jobs were concerned. The +1 didn't that was a pissing contest.

In FFXIV your race will NOT really have mutch of an impact on what you can be good at.

I think you're getting the wrong picture here - in FFXI, there were stat differences that were noticable in the low levels, but in endgame they mostly equaled out with gear, so in the long run it didn't make much difference what race you chose for what job.

In FFXIV, it will matter even less, due to players having control over their stat allocation as they level.  So even though there are small stat differences - you'll only really have to worry about them toward the very beginning of the game, and the differences quickly become negligible.  Not only that, but you really will only be playing 1 character probably, so it's best to just choose a race you prefer looks-wise.  You may change your mind down the line about what type of class you want to play - that's why they make it so flexible and easy to switch.

In FFXI base stats were static based on job and race. In FFXIV you allocate the stats yourself. The different races still have different base stats but because you can allocate however you wish you can compensate for racial weaknesses quite easily. I expect that by the higher levels the racial differences will hardly be noticeable, though at lower levels the differences will be more pronounced. I think it would be wise to choose a compatible race/class combination for your first class but beyond that it will no longer matter.

I am not sure how the classes will use the Stats in 14 but Judging from 11 it shouldn't matter that much what u pick.

Why? well 11 wasn't as simple as u want a WHM pick most mp or u want a THF so pick most agi since really there was a lot more to a job than only 1 stat Take a taru whm and an elvan whm for example while the taru does have more mp will the elvan have higher MND and VIT which both makes your spells stronger.

And stuff like that was with almost every job in 11 (couple exceptions u want the best blm pick a taru) besides don't forget that u prolly will end up with more than one class on your character so even if the races will make a huge difference in the quality of the jobs will u end up with jobs u will be top in.
