TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea: Frogster Reassures the Community

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Frogster Product Management Director Daniel Ullrich took to the official TERA forums with an open letter to the community. Ulrich takes on the concerns that have been expressed with regard to Frogster's contract to publish TERA in Europe.

Ullrich begins the letter by thanking the community for the feedback regarding any aspect of TERA's development or concerns about its publication. From there he moves on to answer some of the more hotly contested issues with specific regard to Frogster's involvement:

  1. Frogster will be publishing TERA in Europe under a pay-to-play model just as EnMasse will be publishing TERA under a subscription model in the US.

  2. While Frogster has no intention of changing or altering the game in any fashion in Europe, Ulrich acknowledges that it will have to abide by the laws of the countries in which TERA is released as would any publisher.

  3. Frogster intends to put the most state-of-the-servers online in Europe. Frogster is working closely with BlueHole to ensure that the best, fastest, most reliable servers are brought online for Europe so that the gaming experience is equal to that of North America.

  4. Frogster will have 24/7 customer support with a team dedicated only to TERA.

You can read the letter on the official TERA forums and check out the fan reaction.

What do you think about the letter? Are you reassured? Let us know!

    Hmmm

Frogster, the ultimate moneymakers, they practically invented itemshops.  They ruined the distribution of Spellborn. Lets say these guys are Worse then SOE and Microsoft and Apple together when making money is concerned

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    He never said Spellborn sucked.

He said they ruined the distribution of Spellborn.

"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-

This is not true..The game has to be alter in order to comply with the european countries laws..As long they can get the ok from the Developers to alter the game they can pretty much do as they please as long it brings in revenue for them and the developers..We will see when the item mall hits the game..

I was so lookimg forward to TERA. A nicely made Korean MMO, westernised by EnMasse, lovely graphics doing something different with combat. Then Frogster right in the kisser. image

So the pay-to-play is meant to reassure us? It shows what they know about most MMORPG players right there.

Spellborn didn't suck at all. It was a very decent game that could have easily made it.

They had a huge following in Europe alone for years during development and beta and the community was overall very positive and very mature.

Then they announced the publishing fiasco, with Frogster and Acclaim, splitting up the whole european community in three different regions.

Frogster only bothered doing german and french language servers.leaving a sub publisher doing Benelux and scandinavia (who didn't even had any distribution network other than Holland alone!! lol).  And Acclaim got the UK together with the US. And to make it even worse, they then put up IP blocks!!

It caused such an outrage on the forums, that they pretty much lost everyone instantly.

There was nothing left of the community by the time the game launched!

Frogster put up the lame excuse that they didn't had publishing and distribution in whole Europe.

So how the hell are they gonna handle TERA then??  They gonna split up Europe again??

Didnt really get involved with spellborn, so I wasnt aware of Frogster much.

Thanks for the headsup ! - I hate it when they use other publisher, it made Lotro and DDO nowhere near as good as the american side.

Shame, I was looking forward to this game.  Maybe we'll somehow be able to get the Us version.

    TERA isnt F2P?

Well then i stay away from it - SWTOR gets my only Subscription in 2011

    Spellborn was DOA !

The wrong game at the wrong time doing all wrong...a very few nice ideas though but not enough to save such a truckload of a mess.

It always amazes me that Europe has such a great internet backbone with way faster connection speeds than North America, but when it comes to actually putting content online to USE all that speed, there's no one that's any good at it.

Every European distribution company I've heard of in the last 12 years is horrible.

Well CCP base their servers in the UK.  And they are the only company to make a game with only one server.

Sure there is lag sometimes, but thats just server lag or client lag, (bugs) ive never had a bad ping on Eve for 5 years.

This was some how meant to answer questions? All I see is the usual marketing PR fluff piece. They didn't address the idea of IP lock outs (which contributed to the failure of Spellborn by fragmenting the community), nor did they address the REALLY poor quality service that Frogster is infamous for.  Its too bad that BH picked Frogster for Europe.

I hope they make enough money in the NA area to stay afloat, because Frogster will likely cost them quite a few subscriptions in Europe.

You Tera guys get Frogster, which also gets you my condolences as a ex TCoS player.

Maybe one of the worst publishers you could have been saddled with, seriously.

This comment wasn't really of any value now was it??

My point stays unanswered i still didn't experience any trouble with Runes of Magic and therefore still dont understand why u all react that way.

Are u all just hating because of one mistake they did in the past or r u all unaware of Runes of Magic or am i really missing something here that could bring light to it?

I am really only trying to understand tho
