It doesn't have classes like those other games, it has attributes and a skill tree so you decide how your character will play.
It has a very large open world, you decide what you want to go do and when you want to do it, no rails keeping you along a leveling path. Also 99% of the quests in game are repeatable, so you can always run the ones you like once your timer is up.
Free monthly updates, forget about ever having to pay for an expansion again, or waiting a year to see something new.
Faster leveling/overall pace then EQ or DAoC.
The graphics are older, so it may take some getting used to, but they have been slowly updating those so they're getting better.
Everyone that comes back or tries for the first time says how much fun they're having, it really is a fun game with lots to do and lots to learn. Definetly worth at least using the free trial.
I know for alot of people its hard to get past the graphics, but if you give it a honest try you will like it. the game really is one of the Best MMO's ever made.
I started playing it on the Solclaim server as Christoph Spiritossen on Sunday, February 18, 2001, 16:23:56 CST, so named because my father played as Spiritos the Good, having arrived from Ispar just one month and 10 days earlier. (Sadly, my mother has remained on Ispar all this time.)
The game has a pretty deep lore history. Check out more of it on the game's Wiki at http://asheron.wikia.com where I edit semi-regularly.
Some fans have put together music about the game, like a rap about the PK's life:

You'll find others on this directory: http://asheron.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Music
Now, I hope you enjoy that growing editable game resource and get quite acquainted with this age-old award-winning game this way.
Cheers, man!
Warning: I could be on NoDoz caffeine pills so I hope I don't post anything outrageous!
I dedicate this song to The Matrix Online & Asheron's Call 2 -- the games I hoped to play someday but had bit the dust before their prime.
