Tabula Rasa for me too, killed off before it had time to flourish.
Not without its flaws, but loved the idea and just had so much fun with it, can never understand why it never went F2P with a Ca$h shop feature . . oh well . . missed but not forgotten.
Darkness Falls: The Crusade - Becaues that game was not only my introduction to MMORPGs (even thought it was a MUD) it developed a strong follow, was extremely fun and addictive. I have played other MMORPGs with fellow DFC players and in the beginning of WoW many ex-DFCers formed a guild. It was not only a experience online but a social experience as well. I would make it a graphical game however if I could bring it back.
What he said, My forum avatar was the demon race in darkness falls:the crusade.
By far the best gaming experience of my life was in that game.
AC2, totally. I loved the world and really still miss it all these years later. Great gameplay, completely unique classes, and it really felt like the world was completely full of potential. I hate that the Microsoft launch crippled them on startup. Once Turbine bought them out and got it running the game really blossomed! I'd quit three years of active play on LOTRO today and be back on AC2 if the servers came back online. I just hope that Turbine is working on AC3 now. :-)
hmm, well none of the MMO's ive ever played has died yet ( I started wIth WoW, played pretty much every MMO after and some that came out before)
But i would really love to see vanilla wow revived, yes WoW isnt dead yet, but wow has turned into a shitty game now, they took it in the wrong direction. was awesome when it released and until they added battlegrounds, went pretty much downhill from there, atleast with TBC then WoTLK.
Pre NGE SWG. Since Vanguard is in the nearly dead category and desperately needs a miracle, I'll give that an honorable mentioning as well. Funny that they're both SOE games.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I'd resurrect Earth and Beyond in a New York second but this poses a dilemma for me. I beta'd EnB and was proud of my ship's FF insignia, and I've never connected with Guildies like I did in that game, but therein lies my dilemma- I've tried the emulator and there's no where in that game I can go and not miss someone. I dunno if I could play that game were it brought back to life but I had to cast my vote.
I can't not mention Star Wars Galaxies too. I've never tried (ironic and unfortunate that I have to use that word) to like a game as hard as I tried to like SWG, I've lost count of how many times I've deactivated and reactivated my account.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I loved the bane AI, attacking and defending the forts, scaling instances...
NCSoft failed miserably with the PR and the support ( a friend of mine waited 3 days to get his character unstuck because it failed under the ground... )
NCSoft can eat ****. I'm not buying a game from them ever again.
Bring back Auto-Assault !!! Got the game but the server went down, an online carmageddon was great, pitty it all went belly-up.
Also bring back "Legend Of Mir 2", the only 2D top-down game that swams you with monsters, where you could go deep into mines to fight zombies and ghouls, to go mine precious ores like silver and gold.
I've enjoyed playing LOM2 for a long time, untill they closed down and serverfiles got leaked onto the net. Legend of Mir 3 is still around, but just isn't the same.
No other game playes like Legend Of Mir 2, I've tried to find something to compare it with, and nothing even comes close. Games are more low-detail 3D free-to-play rubbish these days. I prefer to play 2D rather than low detail 3D any day.
I'm not sure it was considered an MMORPG,but it had several hundred players on nearly 24/7....the original NeverWinter Nights on AOL. I had a blast in that game and spent hours just rolling a new character with high numbers. The graphics and sounds were crap(1995 just about everything was) but it had a great community, especially at the dracoliche spawn(We are the knights who say NI....lol ). I heard a rumor of a new NeverWinter Nights MMORPG in development based on the single-player games, but I won't hold my breath....
Another would be SWG before or shortly after the NGE,...if after, it would be fine if they eliminated the pre-made Jedi. Jedi should be earned PERIOD. Sony tried to cater to the whiny brats who wanted Jedi out of the box,and POed all the players who worked hard to get one. Jedi are supposed to be special, but they aren't if there's 200 of them running around on every server(galaxy). Other than the Jedi issue, the post-NGE was a lot of fun,...that is until they decided to change the combat again,.....and again,......and again,......SW:TOR anyone?
it's engine was unique and could do things that MMO's now are just starting to adopt. I liked that I could raise skills with XP over requiring skill points or talents to do it with that I could easily untrain one spec into another spec without needing to re-roll a new character. Giving me the ability to play everything.

Like many others in past posts ... Everquest 1 pre Luclin release. Kunark and Vellious were amazing expansions. Dungeons and raids were top notch.

Tabula Rasa and an update on Planetside. I had a lot of fun with the combat in TR. The npc's actually had a decent AI, at least for an MMO they did.

Some tough choices here.
If I could only pick one it would be Asheron's call 2.
Too bad F2P wasn't considered a survivable business model then.

Ultima Online
Hands down the best MMO ever created, because it's an actual world - not just a "Game".
I still play the zombie form it's in now from time to time.

Wish they would just add vanilla WoW servers.
Currently Playing Path of Exile
DAOC was the best game I ever played so easy for me too pick it .
I do not think it can be revived tho .... so I am hoping for DAOC 2.
I hope this time they stay focused on what set this game apart for the rest ... RVR .
Asheron's Call 1 with a bit of a makeover would be excellent.
Best MMO world, great character and combat., and NON INSTANCED HOUSING.
A bit lacking in gameplay, but that could be changed easily.
For me AC2 was too dumbed down and WoWesque, although it came out before WoW.
[Mod Edit]
Asheron's Call (3 Years)
Asheron's Call 2 (3 Months)
SWG (3 Months)
FFXI (1 Day)
WoW (6 Months)
DDO (1 Month)
Vanguard (off & on)
Crossfire
LotRO (3 months)
Warhammer (3 days)
GW2 (1 month)
CIV I-IV (20 Years)
Personally, there are soo many old MMO's out there, but Everquest 1 and Asherons Call 2 *Beta Test* was so worth it.
#1 Would have to be Everquest 1 with a new DX10 Graphic Engine would find itself again..
#2 Would have to be Tabula Rasa, it rocked, it worked, it played and it's made you feel warm inside..
Pre NGE SWG. Since Vanguard is in the nearly dead category and desperately needs a miracle, I'll give that an honorable mentioning as well. Funny that they're both SOE games.

Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu)
'nuff said.

Tabula Rasa
Thumbs up on that sir

PEPSI!!!!!
Get out of your box already...
I'd like to see Tabula Rasa come back, even as a f2p. Seems like they gave up on that one too soon.
Earth & Beyond was the first MMO I beta tested and played. Loved the game.
Asherons call 2

There isn't a wrong answer in the whole bunch. SWG pre-CU for me.

Definitely EQ1, hands down. Really tough game and well worth it when achievements were accomplished. Best MMO in history!
