That will run the game great. Are you buying that or building yourself?

Nice one, I doupt you'll have any trouble/lag with that one. I think it beats my PC by a little, and it ran smoothly for me most of the time :)

Awesome. That system won't have a problem. If I had the money I'd definitley pay someone else to build it to. But as of now I'm in the building/buying process. Rewarding once I finish it I suppose.

EQ2's technical support board has been filled with complaints about running on the Nvidia 6800 GT.. no idea if they fixed those. Apparently there is a stutter issue on that particular card.

    Found it:
    http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=tech_support&message.id=10070

10 pages of people complaining their 6800 GT stutters on EQ2.

Ya its weird, I have heard alot of people loving the card with no issues, then some people having alot of problems ::::07::

Might it be an issue with people not having updated the drivers?

I think I read it's a code problem in the game.  I would keep up with the EQ2 tech support board before you go with a 6800.

Get the ATI X800 instead or the ATI Radeon 9800 pro. =p

RAM is soooooo important. My sytem is mediocre but I haev 1.5 gig PC3200 DDR ram, I run so much crap in the background and still teh game runs flawlessly. (I play in window mode)

granted, my graphics aren't cranked up to the max, but they are high enough and i am impressed with the details
    I have a ATI radeon 9600 Pro

I have a 6800 Ultra with an almost identical machine. My performance is ok I would expect better but I`m not really complaining either.

You can easily go to at least 1.5G of RAM and get good performance increases. I had 1Gig and went to 1.5 and it helped A LOT.

It appears they have not yet isolated what is causing stutter with the 6800 series cards. Some people claim a BIOS flash works, turning fastwrites off works for others, driver rollbacks, chipset driver updates, and other things like buying a decent power supply have worked for some people too. For many people, none of those things have worked. Many people are not capable of trying more than one or two of those things, but no one should have to deal with them.

It's bleeding edge hardware on a bleeding edge graphics engine. Par for the course imho. The drivers for the FX series were junk when they came out too. After several months they managed to straighten that out, and all of a sudden the FX models became competitive with ATI's 9xxx series. Expect the same to happen here except the 6xxx series already beats the new ATI cards, and also expect to roll the dice when you order a 6800 before the problem has been solved. Yes it is a problem, yes it will be solved, yes it does suck.

I'm a 9800 Pro owner, so don't start calling me a fanboy. There are X800 stutter issues in some games too. If you were an owner of one of those games and had bought the X800 for it, you would be just as angry as many EQ2 people are. But EQ2 is a community-based game, so you're encouraged to post in a public place where everyone reads it, instead of having to root around to find the tech support forum for some FPS or RTS.

HL2 is supposedly "made for" ATI (it's all BS marketing, FYI folks). There are many X800XT owners getting stutter in HL2, how do you suppose they feel about their new purchases?

If you dont get a 6800gt.. get 2 6600's and connect them.. OR 2 6800 gt's and connect them.. :O but 2 6600 is like 300 bucks.. and uber tastic more than likely.. :O

    2 6600's is 290 dollars cheapest place
    1 6800 gt is 370 dollars cheapest place/a 6800 ultra is 490 cheapest place
2 6600 gt's is like 360 bucks, but they only come in 128 megs...
