TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea is one of the most highly-anticipated MMOs set to release in the next year or so. MMORPG.com writer, Michael Lafferty, recently had the chance to sit down and talk with TERA producer Brian Knox about the challenges faced by the development team and how those challenges are being met. Read on!
When you look at a game like TERA, it seems the ingredients are in place for what could well be a compelling experience. En Masse Entertainment (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Korean MMO company Bluehole Studio), the Seattle-based group behind Westernized version of TERA, brings some A-level talent to the project, that much is certain. Industry vets from Blizzard, Microsoft, EA, ArenaNet, NCsoft and BioWare are all on the project. It seems apparent these folks know the market and understand what MMOers desire.

From what i can foresee that TERA will be the fixed version of Aion...can't wait!!
A True Master who Knows his own limit...
Certainly looks that way. Looking forward to this game. NCSoft should look at what these developers are doing and change their ways.
not suprising, if you remmeber he was producer at NCSoft West
...'To me, the healer class is the most revolutionized because healers no longer just heal at a certain percentage; they have to track everyone on the battlefield and make sure they’re in position to make the necessary heal....
good healers always try to be in good positions to heal everyone and it is not always possible , but from what he says i can see they intent to make healer job harder ... better make those healers realy powerfull, becouse otherwise i can see a LOT lfg for healer spam...
I like the idea that we are focused on and engaged on the scene rather than the ui. Implementation is another matter, we'll see how well they actually do this.
thats what u say now.
ur gonna be saying "TERA IS SHIT", one month after release. i can gaurantee that.
OP like Aion Cleric...?
gg
The only reason I'm interested in this game is its combat system. It is, however, a Korean port, and I detest Korean MMO's. So the more I think about it the less I want to try it.
My biggest concern with this game is that, like Aion, it is a westernized version of a Korean game. Therefore, I imagine we will see ridiculously long waiting periods between patches as they are localized.

I'm excited for this game! The graphical design is great and the lore is interesting, plus there's innovative gameplay that I can't wait to try out!
I hope Tera Europe come soon ( before 2012 ) ^_^
I dont really know. This game looks pretty and all but so do many other MMO's right now. The dodging mechanics look interesting but the fights so far (as far as what the videos are showing) are not fluid and look pretty retarded. Let me elaborate a bit on that, what I mean by retarded is characters attacking nothing becuase there is no targeting system, so you have to either spam your attacks and try to land some while y ou move or be incredibly lucky to get a non moving target. Ive seen duels where people are moving around and the Melee DPS are just trying to chase them swingin around their weapons and not doing any damage (pretty lame if you ask me). It is an innovative idea but so far from what I see the implementation is not that good.
At least with a sub game they know that people won't tolerate bullshit and leave. With anet we have no recourse but to buy our own lube so our assholes don't get too stretched out from getting bent over a table at Anets will. - Hrimnir
Lol this is the pretty much the exact same spin he gave for Aion and look how that turned out. ^^
NCSoft will never change. They only care about how much money they stuff in their pockets. They do not care about the player base. This is where NCSoft will always fail no matter how eye-popping their game might look. I am hoping that Blue Hole/En Masse is more interested in the players and less interested in the money. If they care about their customers and players, and do not care about the bots and the money, then they will give Blizzard a good challenge becuase Blizzard cares about its players and that is why they are donig so well.
I am extremely excited about this game. Hopefully it turns out to be the game that I play for the next few years.
When can i play with Tera iam waiting since 1 year:(
I want to play with this game:D

As soon as I read this guy was involved with Aion I was turned off. My friends and I forked out the 70 bucks for a CE of Aion and played for 3 months. It was a waste of money and time. I stopped playing once my sub ran out, but kept an eye on the forums for a while afterward. The arrogance of NC soft was mind blowing.
Aion left a bad after taste. It was a beautiful game graphics-wise, but hard to swallow otherwise. The customer service was non-existent, and the game was not entertaining. It was a mindless grinder plagued with bots and gold spammers. I felt/feel duped by Aion and NC Soft. Because Brian Knox was somehow involved with that, and now he's involved with this game, that alone should be reason to steer clear. Aion did/does not understand the Western market, this game will be no different.
I would say that I am more than milkly interested. I've seen many videos online of the gameplay and it does look like a challenging game with groups taking significant damage as they engage mobs.
I might really like this game - I like a challenge. Heck, I'll even play a healer!
Sound like Aion to me with atking and moving we need the next stage of mmo rpg's to happen soon for PVE that would me moving and attacking they got that part but missing attacking diffrent parts of mob and they that part get hurt cut off and effects things diffrently and every mob would be diffrent.
Say a shell type monster would be highly DEF type and has its own style diffrent from all other mobs in the game and say you keep attacking the the leg slows it down but before you cut it off crippling the mob it pulls the leg in it's shell for a few mins so you switch to the shell to try to crack it then to brake it open and get the killing blow.
This's the new generation game xD
Damnation.....!
yup .. more Aion crap, but also Frogster has been signed up to market/deliever this game in europe so that is me out of the running for this game straight away.
I like these ideas , but aion was NOT an moblie fighting game, instead it was very stationary. At best w/ kiting.
DAOC had more movement in its fights including mobs and that sad becuase its freakin old. (When u were aloud to stand around w/ auto swing on).
Moving in aion just made mobs jump all over it was awful.

ROFL. It seems the people out there with crystal balls already know what the game will offer..or not.
At least its not being called a WOW clone. Guess the new 'cloned MMO is Aion now :P.
I'm playing aion now and plan to try this out. Aion, unfortunatly deserves alot of the crits is getting. While the gold spam is dramaticly redused the grind is pretty boring and made worse by the probability of being ganked by someone with 5-? levels above you. The grinf wouldn't be so irritting without these gankers. I enjoy PVP if its done well but for the most part but it is poorly implemented in Aion.
Only time will tell and worst case GW2 is coming......
Let me comment on your post for a moment as i have had the same view as you, but here is the deal about Brian knox, as we know that Aion was korean and so is Tera, also as we know AIon had Original Producers in korea aside from Brain who was hired only for the western side of things, only thing that you would have noticed with Aion that the game in the west would never be with a slight difference from the Korean version as to that reason not just the producer in the west but all the department of aion in the west was limited as to what they can do for the angry western audiance, however what comes differently this time is that Bluehole, the mother company and the creator of the game; have giving the green light for Enmasse to start working the game up from scratch to match the liking of the western audiance, so that at least in itself..can bring up some hope in this game to bring something different, and if you have been following the audio episodes on Tera cast u will hear one interview with him (in episode 10 i beileve) where he admits that he still "did not get it right" and this time "he finally got the full green light from bluehole to allow him to work the game as he wished it to be"
so guys....cheer up and encourge them!!! instead of the doom and gloom!!!
A True Master who Knows his own limit...
looks like AIon clone but better , its just too bad its coming out at the same time as SWTOR so I wont be playing it.
I know this will probably be little to nothing to TERA naysayers but to show that Enmasse has already been working on adding things to our version of TERA that westerners wanted is that we have Achievements. FGTs wanted Achievements in TERA and we got them now. It atleast shows that some stuff is being done for us.
