Getting the account back takes all of 5-10 minutes. I've had success getting my perma banned Aion account back (which they could have kept for all I care), and I've had great success getting my old GW1 account back. Don't e-mail... only morons e-mail.

I am in the same boat as you. Also lost my account. and it hurts alot. Been a huge fan of many NCSoft games like Lineage, Auto Assault and all the GW games. And all is collectors editions. I have tried to email the support. No reply as of yet. So they can in my opinion drop of this world. Will not support them in anyway anymore. Sad to see them forget the ones that made them get this far, and that is namely us the players.
Heh, my account runs out tomorrow and my girlfriend's ran out at the end of last week. Lost her name on the account merger to an Asmodian (she's Elyos) 6 levels below her. Filed the name-change appeal twice, and has not received a response.
I'm sure others got that appeal fine, and she's just an exception, but it's an exception that's costing them a few more subs. Needless to say, we won't be bothering this weekend, or any return weekend.
She was actually planning to return eventually, but with the no response to her appeal and her main's name lost, she doesn't have any plan to return now. To top it all of, we tried going to Guild Wars, but she can no longer log in to her Guild Wars account. E-mailed support and guess what? No response.
She doesn't even want to bother calling them anymore. NC West might be leashed by NC Korea, but their customer support has been absolutely shitty to us. And that is something they definitely control.
It showed so much potential when we were all beta-testing it . We all warned the massive grind would be its undoing and noone listened. Even after release we were practically begging NCsoft to do something ASAP to stop the mass exodus from EU and NA servers . All to no avail: even while players were quiitng the game en masse they were still too busy selling new boxes to bother with the existing playerbase. I don't know a single player myself who left that game who is even considering to return to it. They had their chance- more than one in fact - and they blew it big time.
Added to that is the incredible lacklustre support . Even after release we had one GM active in EU most of the time and he only used twitter to communicate and only in German at that . The forums were a joke as was the actual support from NCsoft itself in case of account issues . They didn't learn anything from the Lineage 2 experience and just released this game in western hemisphere as an afterthought instead of taking this market serious ( they made the same mistake with Tabula Rasa, halfhearted in supporting it and canceling after barely a year which is ludicrous for an MMO ) . I had hoped Arenanet would have left this awful company and look for another publisher but it wasn't to be.....

I absolutely agree. My account got hacked after I quit playing, and I thought to myself "is it even worth sending an e-mail?" when I decided yeah I should, they were less than helpful, and they didnt do ANYTHING about it.
By the way : you do realize they expect folks outside the USA to phone to the USA ( it's the same number , lol ) , don't you ?? That's a bloody intercontinental phonecall !!

The only reason I actually play there is because all my friends do so. And its fun just cause of being with them lol.
As for the customer support, after the exams, when I reactivated the account it had been hacked, i e-mailed them (yes, the "moron" here sent an e-mail). Got answered in 5 minutes with a temp account. A day later, sent all my data and so on, and got my account back in less than 24-48 hours. Also had some friends with their accounts banned and all of them got theirs back . So as far as client support, can't actually complain XD
As for the game itself, i'll wait and see in the 2.0 expansion, although I'm not very enthusiastic. As someone already pointed out, these games are just translations of the asian games. While Aion there is a MEGA HIT, able to label cola bottles, in the west its just not like that. We have different tastes (most of us) than asian players and until they get that.... its useless.
I'm looking forward to the double xp - I've been neglecting my crafting skills, so this will be a good time to catch them up.

I mean, I understand that the game design isn't for most people, especially if you're used to games like LotRO and WoW, but this game does a lot of things right (I REALLY wish designers would take a cue from Aion in terms of animation smoothness and music).

Thats because its banned, I had the same issue, I left the game because I was in the hosiptol , I came back to play and found out I was banned, someone hacked it and used it to macro, This happen to 10k other accounts and NCSOFT admiited it, trust me if you call them I bet you had the same problems.

The grind is one thing, but what really set me off was how bad the rampant bot issue destroyed the economy.
Calling shenanigans on this. Bots sold for less than the greedy players, when they kicked mostly all the bots off - Economy went to total shit because everyone is so damn greedy.
A weekend for a 20g download or whatever it is? Well I actually still have the install discs, but I'm not gonna go through the trouble of installing and most likely uninstalling a game I know I didn't like. Unless there were some major changes I was unaware of.

not sure how long ago you played but 1.9 did fix a lot of things. the server merges are only bad, right now, because the merges are still happening so it will not be a few weeks until everything has died down (being are not being patient or understanding enough). 2.0 looks promising also. I play a lot of MMOs and right now Aion is the one I am playing. There are still some issues with it but I really am enjoying my time with it. I also joined a legion that is fun and great to joke with. I am going to play FF14 when it comes out but for now, and maybe later, Aion is for me, for now it is
