Benchmark Tool - Pretty Cool

Benchmark tool telling you how much of a performance increase you'll see if you upgrade.

I didn't design it but saw it on another FFXIV forum.  As for me...

I have a Ati HD 4890. My Hi Res score was 2395. I was thinking of getting a Phenom x6 1055t and a Ati 5850 for ~$500.

If I were to upgrade my graphics card only, I would see a 19% increase in FPS. That sounds great until you look at real numbers. If My average FPS is 30, a 19% increase will put it at ~36 FPS.

Is 6 FPS worth $500? I don't think so.  It might even be +8-9 FPS increase if I upgrade the processor as well, but again... If I can play the game with my current setup at ~30 FPS... i'm not upgrading.

Yea I saw this too, it is something sweet. I got in contact with one of the people who made it, and the benchmark is based off some hi-level math (scary). They apparently figured out how to take core hardware information about a graphics card and use it to predict performance.  But since everyones computer is different, that alone isn't useful. Which is why the user has to input "their own" data to correctly adjust the scale.

So if you pulled the benchmark off of some website and plugged it in, the estimations are only good for the computer on which that benchmark was run.  Needs to be from your own system to be accurate. Take the 5870... I've seen scores from 2000 to 7000 with that thing... depening on the computer and resolution it was run on.  These people are onto something...

I'm sure its not perfect because of driver issues with new cards and what not at the moment, but it should at least give a very good idea of what to expect. They told me a bunch of stuff about it being "96% accurate at 95% confidence". I have no clue what that means, lol.

On the bright side, I know what card I want now :)

    Which card?

5970... ahaha. I didn't say I could afford it. I'll probably try to grab a 5870 by September

So the fastest card in the universe only gets 30fps on FXIV?!

    Scary.

I'm waiting to see how well it plays before upgrading.

My benchmark score was 2400 and I think that's fine to play using default settings.  THough I will need to get a controller.

Seffren... you used the default settings and hit "go". So you told it your FPS was 30 with a 5970... try reading the directions. Select 30fps with a 9600 GT or something and it will tell you what your FPS WOULD BE with a 5970. arg.

    Ha, get it.

    Not so scary anymore :)

Very cool tool, I already got the feel from the changes from my old card to my new ones, but seeing it helps out.  Thanks for the new bookmark!

    Scary.

    FFXIV is capped at 30fps.

Yea FFXIV is brutal. It takes your computer, bends it over a knee, and smacks it with a hammer. Then it smiles.
