I think you got it all backwards :P

Graphically speaking, PS3 has crisper more defined visuals (bluray vs HD DVD's anyone?), and Performance wise 360 just takes the cake.

No he has it right the XBox does have a slightly better GPU, but the PS3 has the better processor.

The cell Processor can help the GPU process the Graphics.... putting kinda them on par.

The PS3 Blurays can hold more data, but are somewhat hampered by the blurays slow access... thus a lot PS3 games have mandatory installs. The 360 get multiple Discs.

In the end they end up damn near equal.

This is pretty accurate but the PS3 for FFXIV is using almost all the processing power of the Cell which does put it a bit ahead of the 360. in terms of performance. Note that this is only true for FFXIV, FFXIII, and versus(the 3 crystal tools games) other titles do not use as much of the cell processor so the Xbox ends with a performance advantage in other games.

One, blu-ray has NO effect on anything, other than making the system actually load slower than newer blu-ray players or other dvd game consoles. It increases storage capacity, nothing else. Second, the 360 is more "crisp" in nearly every older cross platform game and some of the newer ones as well though the ps3 does have some amazing looking exclusive games. Look at actual comparisons for facts on this. Also, the 360 doesn't even use HD DVDS. Nothing ever used hd dvds except video players or the add-on to the 360(which was SOLELY for movies)

The key word here is older. Most mulitplatform games were made on the 360 and ported to the PS3. Even today many multiplatform games are still made that way because the 360 is easier to code for. However, more and more developers are starting to create games on the PS3 first and then code over to the 360 to keep them on par. But as you noted, some of the best graphics are found on PS3 exclusives. The sad truth is I doubt we'll ever see better PS3 graphics on multiplatform games because most developers don't want there to be too much of a difference or else they would lose sales one console and only hurt themselves.

They have to dumb the graphics down and make all the game compressed (have fun with obscenely long load times) . The 360 isnt better, but its OS is built like a PC not some wierd science experiment, which makes pc ports very easy (and vice versa). Basically I think if SE knew the problems theyd have theyd have not cross platformed. Lets not forget a 6 month delay is HUGE in the industry, especially on a port. Don't be surprised if they scratch the PS3 (Im not saying it will, but this is known to happen from time to time). And it isnt justhe xbox live gold holding up the 360, Xbox has arule that wont allow cross platform gaming online.

Did you mean to say that? All PS3s come with a hard drive which is more than the 360 can say. Furthermore, most PS3 harddrives are pretty sizeable and can also be upgraded quite easily with an off the shelf HDD.

It doesn't matter how pretty the tree looks on the users end as long as the server knows where your character is in relation to it, right?

i have a feeling ffxiv on ps3 will look slightly better than the ffxi on pc

I should damn well hope XIV looks better on a PS3 than the years old XI looks on a PC.

However, if that was a typo, and you meant XIV and not XI, you bumped your head.

Well I'm a PS3 and a gaming PC owner, but I'm just indifferent on the subject. I'm planning to pick up this title for PS3 if it's true that it controls better with a controller, but I don't care either way.

Bottom line is they stated multiple times that the PS3 and the PC versions were being developed independantly to avoid this exact situation.  So I'd say no PS3 will not limit FFXIV as they had the foresight to make sure that would never happen.

Phantasy Star Universe for 360 is cross platform, if I remember correctly.

    As is Final Fantasy 11.

The main reason FFIV isn't (currently) being ported to the 360, is because Microsoft want a Gold Live Membership to play it (FFXI only needed Silver). Square doesn't want any additional fees beyond the subs & software purchase, so they said no.

As for the PS3 being its downfall, I don't think it will be. The reason I got into FFXI was because of the 360 version. When I played the PC version, a year before, I didn't like it.

Nah.  The PS2 and PC were on the same servers.  360 was separate.

I am not sure about Phantasy Star Universe but I read an interview from someone at Microsoft a month or so ago that said Final Fantasy XI was a one time exception for cross platform play on the 360. If that is true then it looks like FFXI is the only cross platform game.

I would have liked to get this for the PS3, but since that's delayed I will try it for the PC.  My comp meets the min requirements.  If I like it, I will just get the PS3 version later.  I just don't feel like upgrading my PC when it works fine for everything else.

I doubt the PS3 will doom the game.  I'm sure there are many people like me who don't feel like upgrading their PC just to play.

DUDE! the PS3 is going to totally work this game!! It's DOOOOOOOOMED!

I mean, look at that last one this did on the PS2. I mean, it only have a few hundred thousand subs for, like, 7 years or so...I mean, what an EPIC FAILURE!!

    /sarcasm

In fairness, i think SE's willingness to include consoles and PCs in one game is what really sets them apart. Just like PC's gamers who refuse to touch a console....there are console players who feel the same way about PC gaming.

It does not mean that they hate the idea of an MMORPG...they simply prefer the ease of gaming on a console. So if the only real MMORPG offering on a console is FFXIV, it will sell like crack.

ASSUMING of course the PC version is not a complete pile of crap like FF13 and its reputation gets ruined before it can release...it they have a bad PC launch, it could tarnish its Console sales just by word of Mouth.

I've got my pre-order in, so here's hoping.

A 2009 player survey for FFXI.  The PS3 will sell more copies for sure, but long-term...

WOW, those are some interesting and surprising statistics! Link to source please?

Simply put the FFXIV & FFXI are very cleaver at intergrating both PC and console users. For example if you look at the targeting system on FFXIV the simplicity of using both Kayboard & Mouse or a controller allows the game to flow great.. Plus with the huge playstation fanbase with Final Fantasy, plus the cross region servers I highly doubt there will be any downfall in this game.

You must be kidding.  The PC integration is getting huge amounts of complaints.

  • HedeonHedeon Member UncommonPosts: 997

have to agree with grapevine, not that controls doesnt work, but its not a good solution, to try cover 2 diffrent ways of controls -and well SE does recommend PC users to use a gamepad...in FFXIV.

yea from people like you. /shrug i mean let me use your beta account so i can see these so called complaints.

but i can understand if the keybaord controls are alil wonky atm since controller was the design choice in the first place

i really dont see an issue with an mmo designed around a controller. even tho i liked ffxi controls was easy with a keybaord
