My Horrible Confession

saxifrsaxifr Member UncommonPosts: 381

I have to admit that, as straight up livid as I am with Cryptic for various and sundry reasons that I have mentioned in this forum ad nauseum...that I have been playing their game on and off lately.

For something that I play an hour or two here, an hour or two there, it isn't straight up torture. I actually had some fun the other night. Seriously.

I still play Starfleet command sometimes (2 is my favorite), (I would argue that it's one of the best star trek games ever made), and it strikes me as much the same way.

I feel kind of hypocritical saying all this, but at the same time I stand by my assertions that Cryptic has execrebal business practices, their customer service is all about *serving* customers (IE straight out lying and schooling customers), and the bosses at that company need to keep their mouths shut about features they have no intention or capability of delivering. I would most certainly *not* be paying a month-to-month subscription for this game.

Anyone out there want to join my STO anonymous group?

I have the game but cant play it enough to justify sub fee. Its not a time factor its just the game cant hold my interest enough to keep me playing for any period of time. An hour or two a week is about all I could get out of it during my free month. I ouldnt find an option in your poll that fit my feelings so I didnt vote.

WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

Agreed with the first responder the biggest problem that STO has is I think the majority of the people willing to play the game feel the same, know that you may get an hour or two a week out of the game and that simply doesn't justify a sub fee inmy book.  Add to that Cryptics shady business moves and it just isn't worth it to waste any money on this company or game.  I liked the Starfleet series too but it isn't one of my favorites if it is for others though like the op stated you may find a bit more interest in this game than I certainly ever did.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I agree that the starfleet command series was great.  I played the Star Fleet Battles board games in my tweens and teens.  Maybe that's why I don't have a problem with the combat focus of this game.  Exploration, diplomacy and first contact missions sound boring to me.  I just wanna blow stuff up, and this game provides that experience in both space and ground.  I play it about 2 to 6 hours a week with a couple different toons.

its a bad game saxifir, it shouldn't have the star trek name attached to it. thats one of the most annoying parts.. i cringe any time i see a star trek re-run on tv now. and thats all to do with how poorly cryptic has treated its customers.

i never would have said anything about this game on the forums here if it hadn't been for the "some people just dont get it" statement. given its not that i dont think sto could be fun for a very casual player (1 or 2 hours a week).... it just that i have enough respect for myself to not deal with cryptic.

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

The issue is that by paying for a game that you fully agree was designed/made poorly, and that the company is a bad company, you become a bigger part of the problem then they are.

Anytime you complain about how a company operates and then give them money anyways, you only show them that they should keep operating that way because they can get away with it.

Exactly this. Supporting Cryptic in any way now is eroding at  the only voice we gamers have in controlling what crap these kinds of ripoff artist companies try and pull that will be heard.

Well said. It does make me wonder just how badly STO has to do before Cryptic begins effecting the changes needed to bail out this sinking ship and think twice on how they develop/release/manage the next game.

I did pay for a LTS. Is logging into their crap and not having anything to do with any other players the whole time actually supporting them?

I know for a fact I intend to never, ever spend another nickel with them.

It's awful that my decision to buy one of their products can continually make me feel so awful.
