Personally, I don't think the $15 a month sub fee is what's keeping people from this game.
I agree. It' got more to do with how they have treated their subscribers in past, as well as how old the game is now, and what the game has become today that keeps me from re-subbing again. I have tried twice in the last year, only to find that I log on, play with some of my old mounts, move some crap around my house, maybe kill a couple of things then go "bleh, now I remember why i quit in the first place" and usually wind up canceling my sub within hours of renewing it.
With SWTOR so close to release I don't see much that will make me drop any more money on this game again. Probably the only thing that will drag me back in is a pre-cu server, and we all know that's not going to happen.
I would definitely have a look at it again if the way F2P would be implemented would allow me to Roleplay without any real restrictions. SWG still has some of the most immersive Roleplay as surprising as it might be.
F2P is a BIG NO from me for SWG or any game for that matter... Its not free! You need to spend money to compete... Id rather pay a sub each month thanks..
SWG would need a full overhall and re-launch for me to consider it again..
Update the Graphics
Turn back the clock on the NGE and give it back the complexity that we loved.
Yes, SWG was terrible for awhile post CU and NGE and at launch! There are aspects of the NGE and things from SWGemu I wish were in game but overall I like it. There is still a lot I enjoy of SWG over other MMOs and this is about if I would come back if it was F2P. Yes! Yes I would in a heartbeat.
I am a pretty casual gamer now a days so free to play would let me jump on when I wanted rather than consider if I really want to pay the $15 fee. Thats usually what gets me to quit is I can't justify the $ for how much I play. I'd rather see a LOTRO or Guild Wars model for SWG. Just my 2 cents.
I would return. I played the game from 2004 to 2008 and I didn't leave because of the NGE. I loved the old 32 professions and the 250 skill points of the pre-cu era, but I hated that thier was really no storyline quest (Nothing but mindless boring grinding) and the combat speed was too slow. In a sense the CU and the NGE keep me playing a little bit longer, because I was going to quit out of bordom of the pre-cu way of doing things. IMHO all SOE needed to change was the combat speed, take out that crappy queque and give better storylines in quests, everything else was just fine. I only left because I felt that I had been there done that so many times that I didn't see a point to paying money for it. Now if it was free to play and I could jump on when I was in the mood for that old SWG feeling. I would return in a heartbeat.
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
No/ SWG is so bad, so poorly designed, and so desolate that SOE or LucasArts coudn't pay ME to play it. I wouldn't play this game for 4 hours a week if they offered me $100/month.
This game is simply as far from fun as online gaming gets. SWG being free doesn't make it any more tolerable to sit through.
All the content in the world will not undo what has been done. Get it through your head. All the zombies and cash shops will not change the fact they did the damage and it will not be undone.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
i would reinstall it, but it's so damn boring now with nothing going on that even f2p probably couldn't keep me logged in. I guess that would boost the population , so then eh, maybe.

LOL man I know im gonna get this account banned for this but STFU.......
boohoo they changed my pre cu so I am gonna cry like a lil bitch for 5 years over it LMAO get a fucking life man.
Actually the game isnt too bad these days if you take it for what it is and dont keep comparing it to the old days. I played Pre-CU and can say that it's a lot easier now than aimlessly running around trying to figure out what the hell to do. I mean you can still explore if that is your thing...
Played: DAoC 6 years, WoW 2 years, Ultima/EQ 1+ years, AoC/Aion/Rift/SWTOR a few months Tried: Warhammer, EQ2, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and many, many others... Currently Playing: DAOC

Sadly, exploring isn't exactly what it once was mate. I'm not just talking about ITVs, the Internet, wookieepedia, guides or Group Pick-Up points, as they have ALL contributed to a downfall of "exploring", I'm mostly talking about the game speed. You can hop on your speeder and travel straight to the (new) Village and never see a single creature these days because they don't spawn until you're safely past them...pre NGE, hit a stump or get stuck on a rock and I was sh!tting myself because it was almost certain death...a destroyed swoop at the very least. Exploring used to have some risk of dying associated with it, not only death from spawned creatures (before you drove past them), but also from death/decay. That tiny amount of "risk" made exploring fun IMO.
Well considering the brackets that eq2 has set up, and the fact you have to buy you last 10 levels, or you have to buy a gold membership and that is 15.99 a month the same price as a monthly sub.
I have 3 level 90's and the wife has 2 sitting on starsider. It it were a true free to play game then yes. However if it is this crud like the eq2 extended and lotro to where you would have buy your unlocks to get to level cap then no.
Also worth pointing out eq2 extended is separate servers. You have to pay a 35 dollar fee to transfer down to them, then you can't go back ever. They already made that plain an clear, no transfers from eq2-extended back to live. That is why so many folks at EQ2 are angry, we know they are cutting any new blood right out from underneath our legs.
However I think a lot of folks will never come back, there is tons of harsh feeling even today about how the nge was handled, and quite frankly I am one of those very angry players. Now if you gave me a pre cu server, heck even a pre nge server, but to come back to play nge and be gimped no thank you!!!!!
No. I didn't leave because of the cost. The only way I would play SWG again is if someone invents a working time machine. The community made that game and that has well and truly been shattered. What's done is done, it cannot be undone - sadly.
Still hoping for a true sequel, as unlikely as that is. One can dream though, one can dream...

This ... give me a pre NGE/CU and I would be happy to pay for a sub. Anything else I will pass.
Not even if they paid ME to play that filth!
And how can you expect someone to put away "hard feelings" when talking about almosy anything, let alone the tarnished history of SWG?

There is nothing on this green earth that would convince me to play swg.

Maybe.
I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.

NO! Never again! So tired of hearing anything about this game.
I have no problem with paying 14.99 a month for a game, so no I would not return just because it is "free".
