Will the late release for PS3 hurt PS3 sales?

fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

Its been said that PS3 will get thier release of FFXIV six months after the PC version..

Will this hurt the sales of PS3 for all those who were going to buy a PS3 just for this game?

Wouldn't it make more sense to ask if the late release will hurt the Games being sold for ps3 rather than if it hurts the ps3 sells?? I dont think that there were really that many ppls considering getting a ps3 to play the game either way u had one before and that's why u wanted to play it on ps3 or u didn't had one and prolly just planed to play on PC.

I think if people would consider playing it on their PC they are not likley to buy a PS3 for it. . Not many people are going to  be sitting around without a comp or PS3 and buy a new PC for $1000 to play it a few months earlier.  I don't think it will hurt PS3 sales overall.  PS3 sales of the game might take a bit of a hit (for people that have a PC and a PS3)  but I even doubt that.

I think most people that would play the game on a PS3 need to be convinced to try the game. They won't just blindly buy it like they would buy an offline FF title.

6 months gives SE a lot of time to polish the content to a level that console players would find "acceptable" for a console game. Coupled with possibly good reception (for the PS3 version at least) will get people to try it out, and from there on a snowball effect should follow.

In the end there's a high chance for the game to have majority of it's players playing from a PS3.

Also making a poll like that on a MMORPG forum is kinda silly. It skews the statistics way too much that lot of people here are PC-only players.

You could ask that on a console forum and the statistics would once again be skewed on the other opposite of the spectrum.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Why is there no option for "I already own a PS3"?  The closest is "Yes, I bought my PS3 already just for this game." but in my case, I bought my PS3 a couple years ago with no intentions whatsoever for FFXIV.

Doesnt effect me buying a PS3 or not, but I am rather disappointed that they are not releasing them together.  My wife and I were going to play together along with another couple, but each of us only have 1 capable PC and a PS3, so instead of having a nice group of 4 RL friends playing together from release, only 2 of us at a time will be able to play until PS3 release.

I don't think it will end up hurting the sales for the PS3 at all. There aren't too many people who are willing to go out and spend 350 dollars for FFXIV, when they could probably just spend that much upgrading their computer a tad and get similar framerate / graphic settings.

Doubtful. If the benchmark is any indication my i7 @ 3GHz, 6GB DDR3, and dual GTX260s will only run the game on medium/low. The PS3 will probably be the cheaper route for a lot of people.

this is being released on ps3? oye .. no wonder the combat looks so .. meaningless.

Really what I bet will happen is this : The game releases to PC and completely peeters out before ps3 version can even be released due to the boredom and drudgery and all out forum bashing the pc folks who are used to solid mechanics, and intriguing combat give the game.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

Mostly likely exactly what will happen.  The PS3 version has a much higher chance of being popular within its sector, as its a different demographic, with different expectations.

I very much doubt the PC version is going to damage the PS3 sales, as I'd not hesitate to assume most MMOs players have no intention of buying it in that format.

Have you played FFXI? Same thing, console and pc and still a popular game 7 years later.

In Asia, where to be honest its not popular either, when you take into concideration the size of the market and the share other games (inc. F2P) have in it.  Its extremely niche in the West.  It has also seen a recent dramatic fall off in subscriptions.

Well, I had my PS3 before this game was even mentioned.  If the games did release at the same time, I would buy the ps3 version.  My computer meets the minimum requirements, so if I do play I'm gonna use the PC first.  If I'm still feeling it by the time the PS3 version comes out, I will get that.  I just don't feel like updating my PC when everything else works fine on it.

I honestly could care less about gaming consoles, anyone that I know that plays MMOs play it on the personal computer.  If they want a shooter or other type game they play it on their consoles.  Haven't heard of one instance, on my side, where that is even a determining factor.

I dont know if it will hurt ps3 sales, but what I do know it has helped PC manufacturers that sells parts. I have seen a lot of people who were planning to play on ps3 turn to upgrade their PC so they can play.

EDIT: people who say FFXI is not popular should stop talking, because any game that can hold 500k subs for 6-7 years is an extremely popular and extremely successful game. Just because "you" may not like it doesnt mean its not popular.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

I have to totally agree here. The upgrade route may not be cheaper but it keeps you from the insane wait between releases. As far as FFXI not being popular as far as most people need to worry about any game If they are still updating still have more than 100k in scrips its popular. That being said if its got players and its still running who cares about popularity thats success.

As far as everything else goes well see in less than 2 months. The prerelase sales are already looking good so the way I see it atleast for the first few months well be looking at packed servers. Anybody who hates the game just wont play and since beta is out and players have been talking beside the same old controls (im not a fan but I have a game pad for pc so whatever) and shifty movement as far as I can tell the game doesnt look bad at all. I wouldnt be surprised if there were some decent ps3 sales but pc will be the overwhelming way to play this game. Besdie the earlier release date (with the right equipment) it will likely look better run better and play better on pc.

I've owned a PS3 for a while now and I don't want to spend the money to upgrade my PC.  I'll just wait the 6 months, or however long, the port takes.  Plus I can see how the reception is and make a well informed decision on this game.  I don't think I will ever buy another MMO before it's been out a few months.

a 200 dollar gpu upgrade will have you running it on high with no issues at all....
