Im an old time MMO player, from SWG pre/Cu NGE to post, from Warhammer to EVE, W.o.W to AoC.. Ive never played a FF game online or console.
That being said, I understand this game has no pvp in it, and its mostly pve. Ive tried looking up some information on it, but getting a general "fix" on the type of game is rather hard. I remember reading about FF11 and how it took forever to level up etc. Is this, generally speaking, like Warhammer/ W.o.W without the pvp?
Ive ran the test that shows computer viability, and mine came out about average, and its a good rig. So shouldnt have any probs there.
Is this game like any others out there? Whats in store for a player thats never had a FF experience before? ( I will say that one race that look like gnomes is lame, are they trying to get the 10 year old to play?)

i was the same as you never played it then went to check it out because im a fan of all of FF. If you have played WOW, war ect then you will probably wont like it as much as you would want to? with me i couldnt get into it. The way you move is different, attacking is slowish. Theres no spamming 1 like wow. Questing is no spoon feeeding for sure. You really need to get into and quest. I am skipping ff11 for now because of starcraft until ff14 comes out. If that wont satisfy me then i guess i will wait for GW2 or Terra. To this day i think age of conan is probably that kept me in for a while. Nice people. can always keep up with gears and you can get into raids pretty easily.
sorry i meant if u likes wow war ect and you go to ff u will find it very different. You just need to put a lot of time into the game to do things. But its FF!!!! so have a try.
i know... it had better have some form of pvp in it. That is half the fun in an mmo. "no pvp" it almost makes me not want to waste my money on it.
I have played the FF games, but not the MMO FF games.
The big difference between FFXIV and other MMOs you have played will probably be the focus on group play. FFXI was heavily group-oriented (to that point that solo progression simply wasn't an option for most classes past a certain level) and while FFXIV will be somewhat less extreme, count on it being less solo-friendly than WoW. That is, you won't have a quest list of soloable quests that never runs out.
Don't worry too much about not having played the older Final Fantasy games... the series as a whole does not have a continuous story line. From game to game, the whole world and all the characters change; there's no ongoing story that arcs from one game to the next. The only things tying it together are a few recurring elements: chocobos, airships, crystals, guys named Cid.
On the other hand, go play the older Final Fantasy games! They rock!
i was kinda dissapointed with FF13 though, not sure what it was? bring back the old school FF RPG
The class system isn't very static. The progression will be slow. The combat will probably seem slow. Heavy group vs environment type of combat and I bet at the most duel style pvp and maybe if we're lucky an arena of sorts.
Crafting will play a big part, but crafting classes will have combat abilities. To what extent? I'm not sure.
If you're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy in general; one of the tanking classes will probably wear hardly any armor and fight with fist weapons. Which will seem odd, but hopefully it'll be alright. XIV seems to have a lot in common with XI, but it also appears to have it's own brand of action.
There's videos of beta gameplay. After watching some of them I can't say I'm blown away by the game, but it did appear to move faster than I expected and over all it's pretty standard for a MMORPG. Which isn't a bad thing. A bit of polish and production value can make such a statement worth looking in to.
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
Well, judging from the responses from the community here that are following this game, I can tell that the maturity factor is above and beyond the other communities.
It definitely sounds interesting and Im going to give it a try......
yeah pretty much you're going to love it or hate it.
