I'm not sure what Rift is. Isn't that a post-apocolyptic RPG? If there is an mmo set into that world I might take a look at it, I'd love to play a good Sci-Fi game.
GW 2 will be like one only with a bigger lvl cap and voices.
Have you read any of the articles about the game? Features different from GW1: Persistant world, large scale pvp (the mists), personality system, large number of "minigames" for down time, the downed feature, no dedicated healers, class combos, and the list goes on....
Guild wars all the way it just looks so great and im a huge fan of the original series there is nothing as great as guild wars out there and i believe that number 2 is going to be something different especially with the way battle systems have been improved and the new skill system involved
Rift most likely, I'm liking what I see in both games though. They both have superb looks and environments. Rift for the dynamical gameplay and class choices, GW2 for the interactive combat.

How can War40k and ffxi look like fail. There is very little info for ffxi and far less for war40k.
I can't tell you how FF XIV looks like a fail, I am pretty sure it will be a hit, at least in japan. It is harder to tell in the west. And I guessed you talked about XIV and not XI who has been out for years, it was kinda fun but not a great success in EU/NA.
But 40K is easy. They said they would make it similar to Wow to attract Wow players and I have heard exactly the same word before. Unless they aim the game for GW fans the game will fail miserably just like WAR or worse. It is not a good sign when the devs are sounding like MJ and Barnett.
Voted for The Rift, definitely despite the fact I have all the GW expansions - It just gets dull seeing tons of asians all over in town standing there and spamming in their language. its ridiculous - it killed the gameplay for me, and there's so much limitations in the game itself. The graphics are SOO UP TO PAR, though. The class choices were interesting, although for GW2, Im not so sure. Way too much narrations ect.. So its The Rift for me due to its fantasy genre and the class choices. THEYRE HOT! ;D
Whichever comes out first of course. I check out most so-called "AAA" titles yet end up only playing a couple long term.
Telara hasn't made me jump up and down much.
However, WAR didn't either and there was quite a bit of fun to be had there early on. I picked up WAR on a bored whim (low expectations) and was a bit surprised there was some cool things to it. Too bad the fun didn't last. I had 3-4 months of good WAR, the RR (scenario) grind and PvP complaining got to me - friends were not playing it either, which had some influence.
Quite excited for GW2, Guild Wars is a game I still log on and play around in frequently. Always a title or a mission to fully complete. It's like a good console game that hasn't lost its flair. Plus it's paid for.

There are different districts, it might help to go to an american or european district. I have played the game since it came out and I never once saw any spam that was non english language (occasional german or even spanish posts aside).

I will try first....whichever one is released first.
Both of these games, along with TSW, are my main "anticipated games," that are up and coming. So I will try them in the order we have the OPPORTUNITY to try them.
How can War40k and ffxi look like fail. There is very little info for ffxi and far less for war40k.
The most info of all of those games is on ff14. So...
That being said its combat looks 100% fail... how about that. You might not agree and it might not be ... but video after video it looks bad.
However, i do rather agree with you that it is hard to tell at this point what most of these games will be like. The info on all of them is very limited. (ff14 has more just becuase of the translations if you been reading them, and a few videos). WAr40k no clue, we know its going to play liek terra somewhat.. action rectile mmorpg, gw2 is supposted to be open... and we have seen a bit more but not much, rift we know there are rifts and the mob graphics look bad, ff14 has awful lookign combat, limits when you can do guildleaves etc , but it also has a very intresting class/items system that looks fun; terra we know that its a action rectile mmorpg with cd but not a thign about character customization (specs/etc) has been mentioned (and that is scary).
So atm i would agree all of these games could eb bad ... and i doubt all will be good, but we don't know which ones yet will be. Rift gets a +1 for not being an asian dev'ed game , so does war. GW2 gets +1 for being B2P.
As to the ops post, i voted GW2 i hope its good (i hope they are all good).
Normally id say whatever come sout first... but im done paying for every mmorpgs box to stop a month later cuz they are bad. Lets be rational and just wait until they release after the nda is up... and assume the game is far worse than it appears in youtube vid... because they normally are... after that if the game seems good then you should play it.

GW2 is over-rated and i believe it will be a total failure (just like Aion) , personaly... it looks nasty to me, so i'll be going Rift
See this maybe true but its B2P, so its going to keep a lot of population.

gw2 is developed by ArenaNet, which is a western company.
I initially became interested in Rift during the lull of information coming out about GW2 and I think its graphics are lovely, but now that we're getting more information out of ArenaNet about GW2, I'm just not sure why I should be more interested in Rift... I wish the dev team well but it just hasn't won me over at all.
If it were B2P like GW2 I would have been willing to give it a try, though.

This.
Since they aren't all released at the same time, maybe even a year between them.

Rift for me. I like the idea of dynamic spawns.

Rift: Planes of Telara
You should go check it out :-)
They are pushing some new stuff into the MMO genre, just like GW2 is.
I wasn't a fan of the first GW, so I think it'll be Rift for me!
Guild Wars 2! Not even trying Rift. What little I have seen looks like crap to me.
I can't tell you how FF XIV looks like a fail, I am pretty sure it will be a hit, at least in japan. It is harder to tell in the west. And I guessed you talked about XIV and not XI who has been out for years, it was kinda fun but not a great success in EU/NA.

i'm not interested in GW2 at all. i'll be playing Rift for sure.
I wouldn't touch GW2 with a 300 foot poll.
I don't currently have any plans to try Rift, but considering I will never try GW2 it is certainly likely that'd I'd try Rift first.

Hmm, different than what I thought. Good luck to the game and its fans but it just doesn't look appealing to me.
I voted for GW2, HOWEVER.....
