Diverence between PvP and RP server?

BhazirBhazir Member Posts: 321

Hello,

Just pre ordered wow for europe and already know what I'm going to play in the beginning. But I'm unsure what sort of server I should take. The PvE servers are out, so it only goes between PvP and RP servers. I realy love roleplay and also enjoy pvp settings. So my question sounds like are there PvP servers just with the extra ruleset for the RP or are the RP servers setting like those of the PvE servers? Or perhaps you have both.

Thanks.

They are implementing battleground zones for pve servers later on. Similar to the daoc system.

You can read about the pvp system here:

On a PvP server the whole world is a battleground, kinda anyway.
I say go with PvP server. The true spirit of war between horde and alliance will be here.

Thanks for the answers, so at the moment RP servers are set up as PvE. Hope that with the european release there will also be RP servers with PvP settings.

Uhm... have you even played on a PVP server? It's kinda impossible to PK newbies.

    Otto!

I'm looking for some friends that I lost contact with over the years...

    EQ: Horlain (Firiona Vie)
    DAOC: Kaizur (Guinevere)

True.. true.. If you want to kill newbies, you can of course just slaughter the level 60 guards guarding them.
But then again, I believe that (even on PvP servers) the newbie lands are non PvP. So when you get into them you can only kill the NPCs.

But if you consider newby to be < lvl40, right.. then you can kill 'newbies'. And yes, some players do do this. With their level 50 they go out and slaughter level 30s. Kinda sad, but hey, to each its own.

This is where the future honor system comes in. I hope Blizzard implements it well so that it actually gives a huge disadvantage to people who do unhonorable fights. And I do hope they implement it fast ^^

    Cheers,
    Nash

Yepp, you will loose lots of honor for killing newbies to a point where no NPC will talk to you and you can get attacked by your own factions guards.
But it remains to be seen how the actual implementation will go. Though you can be sure that there will be a severe penalty for killing those much lower than you.

Sounds great, lets hope it comes soon and that they won't be budged by people complaining they can't kill much lower players without reprecussions

    To Zeroskater.
I would hardly call a wow PvP server hardcore with a noob killing feast everywhere you turn. You will always know who your enemy is. Calling people on WoW pvp servers powerhungry is a bit misguided. If anything a pvp server will encourage better co-operation with your realm friends.
The WoW concept is basicly the same as realm vs realm in DAoC. Though in wow you dont go to a speacial area (frontiers), instead you go to your enemies lands.
For me the chance of meeting an enemy when I quest / grind or whatever adds to the gameplay, and there is nothing like a battle against a skilled player. Mobs just dont cut it AI wise.
Of course some just dont like to compete that way. To each his own.

Sure - you can self inflict PK. For example, last night I was in Hillsbrad with another tauren, were are L21 and L20. A group of alliance players came, L23 dwarf, L26 human paladin, L27 NE rogue.
Then, 3 undead show up (L27 priest, L27 warlock, L25 warrior). We go full out melee. Me and the other Tauren die (yeah, a real showcase of fine Tauren hunter fighting talent ;)
The other hunter splits, leaving me rezzed by the priest, who w/ the warlock and warrior have wiped the earth of the alliance people ... except for that night elf who slipped away - and then decided to stalk and snipe us.
First he stalked and sniped the priest and warlock. Then he died. Then he must have thought to himself, hmm, that Tauren can be killed. I will just wait until he is far enough away for me to gank him.
Which he did, twice, and killed my pet wolf too. The priest said, and I quote, "Listen my little Tauren friend, you need to be more careful." End quote.
So that was a self inflicted gank. I could have left, I could have chosen not to fight, but they were intruding on what I regard as Horde land, so I chose to fight.
And yeah, it makes it as exciting as hell - and adds an amazing amount of depth to an already incredible game.
But of the mongo hours I have spent playing in the past week, not even 1% was spent on PvP. If you are around when it happens, great. Otherwise, you just play and do your thang. Unless you are going to the land of the alliance ... but that will be later for me.
