Combat is still fairly slow in Final Fantasy XIV, but it's significantly faster than XI's. 

Combat as of Beta is *substantially* faster than Alpha's, and even moreso over FFXI. You had to have some very rare gear and some buffs going to attack as quickly as I've been able to since Beta started - especially on a Hand-to-Hand fighter, like Pugilist compared with a Monk from FFXI.

Another nuance is that the player has more direct control over how much time between attacks and/or how much delay between attacks.

Problem:  I didn't like FFXI's story and theme.

While the story and theme is usually different in Final Fantasy games, if you didn't like FFXI's you probably will not like FFXIV's.

This point is ridiculous.

Other than some tidbits of information from an opening cut-scene and a couple quest lines, for only *one* of the starting cities, the people in Beta don't even know what the storyline's going to be yet, or what twists there might be in it, etc. You're not in beta at all, but you're tellilng people "they probably will not like FFXIV's" storyline based on FFXI's?

Aside from that, though you seem to open this thread/post with the idea of being purely informational, there's a very negative lean to it, and you seem very keen on recommending people stay away in several instances, or suggesting they probably won't like it... even in cases where there's *far* too little known to make any such judgment - such as the storyline bit above.

There aren't many beta testers who could honestly make statements as definitive as you are, as things can, do and have been changing from one beta stage to the next, and you're not in the beta at all. Gives the whole post a rather "iffy" feel, frankly.
