but later on(around lvl 20) a letdown, and WoW to initially be disappointing but later alot of fun? I dunno but this is exactly how i see both games at this point.
Its not just because of PvP, but the depth of character builds in WOW is so much more than EQ2 has in their character building. In fact that was one of my biggest disappointments with EQ2, realizing how similar each player of the same class generally are. On top of that EQ2 forced you into being hardcore tradeskiller if you want to tradeskill at all, like a micro-managing job of just tradeskill grinding. In WoW tradeskills are kinda like UO's were, where they were like optional skills that you could take to be helpful to your character or where he could make money off of them. And you could still adventure while helping your tradeskills develop. In fact, fishing in WoW is one of the cooler mini-games i've seen in a mmorpg, kinda like a dumbed down bass fishing game.
Then theres the multiple character factor or the value of replayability. EQ2 is a serious grind to have more than 2 characters, 1 from each side, since you'll just be repeating the same exact quests all the way through. Its almost linear and setup up to be that way. WoW has multiple quests and a different atmosphere for each race. Theres almost 4x's the replayability in WoW as opposed to EQ2. On top of this, your other characters can actually help your mains in WoW. What i mean is much like UO, you can take tradeskills between 2 different characters to help each other out, and with the maill delievery system(FFXI style), send what your alt my need to him. I know some people will look down on that making some argument about people should be forced to rely on others, but i disagree. One of my favorite things about UO was being able to have tradeskill mules and an account of characters that really supplemented each other. Even then WOW has a 2 profession max limit along with lvl limits to reach skills, which deters people from having a total monopoly w/o relying on others for some stuff they might want/need.
I dunno, but looking back at my puppy love with EQ2 and me almost quitting WOW aftter the first few days, i definitely feel theres a case to be made about that impression those games leave. I'm sure the EQ2 fans will flame me for this, but EQ2 is to EQ1 like AC2 was to AC1

At least AC2 is devoloping nicely and there are being made big changes. But still not enough for me to return to the game. Just give the games time to settle down the dust and look then what they evolve to. Haven't played one of them yett, wow isn't out in europe and don't want to get EQ2 because I'm realy afraid it is just another grind like AC2 was and that don't wind me up to play. Think wow will have the same issue but a lot of friends going to try that one and because I can't stay long away from mmorpg I will get it as well and give it a try. Also the pvp aspect had a great word in this discision
But as most mmorpgs and other games as well, it is a hell of fun in the beginning. But it turns down at a point when the boredome sets in and when you don't learn new tricks at the rate you did in the beginning.
