Servers offline all day on a Sunday...

FreedomBladeFreedomBlade Member UncommonPosts: 281

And no communication at all to the players.

EU server has been down all day now. Tacos (Tascos) has just made a great post that was full of good news about the future then they go an f up the communication again by not bothering to post why the servers never came back up after maintenance.

Not good.

well as we stated before, knowing why the server is down will not allow you to play the game anyway and you will simply need to make a choice in life, do you want to play a good game or have good customer service with  personal wtf is going on hotline?

Definitely an easy choice for me. If taking a couple minutes to post a status update to your customers is so difficult that it prevents them from making it a great game, I'll go with a company that can multitask a little better. I'm enjoying a late lunch while I post this, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to ruin my meal because of it. It only took me a couple minutes to post more then they need to say to let people know what's up.

Just want to test that theory.

"Unfortunately the servers needed to stay down longer then we expected due to further testing and updating. We apologize for any inconvenience and we're working on correcting the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for you understanding and patience."

Edit: yeah, took me three minutes with an eggroll in my mouth and my roommate interrupting me. Not that hard.

I prefer to play a good game as well, which is why I'm playing ZERO MMOs right now.

look here is the thing. If there is a better game for you out there (customer not withstanding) then play it.

What I am saying is that I am not going to play a game that is even .00000000001% worse than DF simply becuase of customer service. peroid. I play the game, only never the customer service

I suggest you go find that game that is better than DFfor you  REGARDLESS of AV bad customer service

While im not a DF  fan, it happens!

get over it :) , every single MMO has days like this, there is not one mmo out there that has not bin offline for a long time deu some weird reason whitout telling ther customers why. Uo,EQ,SWG,CoX,Mortal,DF,AION,EVE name the entire list and it has happent and probaly will again.

The thing you gota do is think if DF is the game for you,  sutch fustration over a day downtime does not stand on its own.

I'm way ahead of you dude. I haven't played DF in awhile. I just agree with people that it's not that hard to post something up saying what is going on. I showed how it literally took 2-3 minutes. They can do the same to show they have some decent customer service. It's not rocket science. Just because you don't give a crap if they have good cs or not, other people obviously do.

I dont play this game, but it is in good form the explain to yoru paying customers why they are unable to access what their paying.

even if you dont give a reason to notify their paying customers there is an issue is a huge step in custolmer relations/retentions.

their is no excuse fanboy or not to not notify your customers they will be unable to use the services their paying for, no excuse at all. ( short natural emergencies)

my question is this, did you leave DF because of customer service?

I personally dont care about notifications of that kind. However, if it makes the player base stop complaining then I think its a great idea. The problem however is simply the second question. If I was to quit what would I play.

Yep, and that's all I'm saying. They could even cut and paste a response they save for times like this, and it would take em 30 seconds. They don't have to go in to detail. People would appreciate that they take that little effort to confirm the company is working on it even if it doesn't give people any more info then they had before. Anyone that's ever worked in CS should know that. Little things count towards the bigger picture, which is mostly about retaining customers. You can guarantee not keeping customers if you take seanmcad's approach. Might be funny to watch him tell customers to go buy something else if they don't like his product though. That'll go over real well.

the absolute bottom line here is this. If I (as an example) do not play this game what do I do instead? play EQ2?

That is my issue, this is the best game out there. will they pay for the lost day? most likely but that isnt what people are complaining about.

Partly, yes. I left for a lot of reasons, but good CS might've kept me around longer because they would've left a good impression. They didn't, so I was a lot more interested in playing just about anything else then giving them more money.

I'm having a similar issue with UO right now. I have fun when I login, but they are doing a horrible job of their latest promotional event and causing people to feel scammed and cheated out of their money. I don't think it would be too smart of me to subscribe with a company that is having problems following through on their statements. If they do address it, then they win and I resub because I can have confidence that they at least standby what they say. So it's a similar issue to this one - more about CS then enjoyment of the game itself.

You said all you needed to say with personally not caring about those notifications. The fact is some people do, and to retain players, they should be doing that because the playerbase is not dependent on what you or I think alone. If they were looking at the bigger picture, it would be easy and beneficial for them to post a quick message to alleviate some player frustration.

Good CS is similar to insurance with me. When I start paying them money, it's pretty important that the insurance company handles accidents fast and effectively, even if I don't plan on using it any time soon and might go years without needing to use it. You might not need CS or care about it now but when you need it most, it might not be there to help you out when the game becomes unplayable. So then you have the option of ditching it and playing something else, or staying subscribed even though you can't play it just to support their efforts. Like you said, the problem becomes what game would you play instead? Sometimes bad CS is directly tied to people not being able to play the game they like most. That's just another reason why it's so important.

Freedom - It's about 9am on Monday in Athens.  I suspect you'll get some info soon but I have a feeling this isn't as simple as flipping a switch.   I'm just guessing, but even if its hardware I would hope they have a back-up server ready to go.

Good luck man.  Of all days for this to happen, Sat/Sunday is the worst.

When I logged in on the US server yesterday it clearly stated EU server down 1:30 GMT. Do you not read this page when you log in? I did and I play on the US server. It is possible that that is all the info they had at the time. I work in a business of diagnostics, I can verify a problem exists but it could take me hours to find the cause. What info do you require..." The server is down and we don't know why." That seems silly to post that because it is not information.

That announcement was made on August 5th, as EU server was experiencing another issue with the server not going up after maintenance.

    This issue is unrelated.

There's already another thread where we had this discussion although it is poorly titled: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/3707345#3707345

To reiterate.  As others have stated.  I don't care if a company makes a statement about the server being down and them trying to fix it.  To me this is a given.  Down server = upset players = potential lost revenue.  No company, that wants to be successful (I believe AV is one of these), is going to just leave the servers down or have no one working on the problem.  It does not benefit me at all to hear "Server's down we're working on it." as I already know this.  I don't consider a notification like this to fall into the realm of good customer service.  In addition, this has happened in every MMO I've played.  At this point I don' t even bat an eye.  I have tons of other things to do and games to play during that down time as frustrating as it may be at times.

on an game vs game debate Darkfall usually blows other games away. Its a debate that rarely happens or quickly gets diverted back to customer service as a game feature.

A lot of debates on Darkfall vs 'what I want' but not so much Darkfall vs Another Actual game.

EDIT: or walk into the valley of steel comments like 'Any thing other than Darkfall.'

In your OPINION Darkfall is a good game. However Id be willing to bet there are a lot more people out there that dislike it than actually like it. The population alone speaks volumes about how most people feel about it.

I respect the fact you like Darkfall, but you have to respect the fact that most people dont.

Again, its common and predictiable when debating about Darkfall for a darkfall hater to not mention any other game when making their points. They never say 'like it is in game ...'. No. its always game vs what they imagine in their head. or cute little comments like 'any other game' or 'any game' or 'even Diner Dash'. come on dont be predictable.
