Name one of those games that lived up to it. Name ANY MMO that has lived up to it's launch hype.

Yes... Exciting stuff. 120 + mil dollars in development cash and all they can come up with as "innovation" are "voiceover" and "RPG like quest system". Great...
I try to restrain my judgment till the release but as i stated before no other company managed to kill my hype as efficiently as Bioware with SWTOR.
Yes they are killing people's hype, that's a good thing IMO. They're destroying every pre-conceived idea we get, which means those who remain hyped get what they're hyped for, rather than some fairytale they came up with inside their head.
This time around we may know what we're getting before they sell it to us. I have no problem with that, I actually endorse it.

WoW with lightsabers or Guildwars with lightsabers. That's all people are gonna say about the game when it comes out whether it has a good solid story or not. Besides hate the idea of voice acting. I prefer doing it way we used back in the day. Dare I say *gulp* read. Then have it read to me. Rather build up my imagination on things then have it all laid out before me. Isn't that what RP is about? Think people have forgotten that.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

yah, nothing like the good old days playing pen and paper rpg's with a bunch of deaf-mutes... if one of those bastards had talked, it would have just ruined everything.

LOL!Thats the problem nowadays people DONT read the story. They click right on past it.Gets in the way of max level and PvP dontcha know?Voice overs make the game more alive if you ask me,since some communities can be quite lacking in the imagination department.

HAHA! I know exactly what you mean.Ive played the D&D old school pen and paper games. That is until our cliche discovered beer and weed. Then it was an excuse to get out of the house!LOL
Expectations and hype for this game are high, but most of it is just extremely unrealistic...
Here is what the masses want, but can't get:
* X-wing vs Tie Fighter + Rogue squadron sequels combined into space combat.
They don't care that this is an MMO and not a flight sim. They don't care that story is the focus. They don't care that this is essentially KOTOR III and I and II had no space combat. They just want.
* Hyper-photorealistic graphics.
They don't care whose computer freezes up or how elite the gaming machines must be to run this game. In fact, they want everybody's computer to crash the minute they walk into town. They don't care if the average user is forced to spend a few hundred dollars in upgrades, and thus decides to buy a PS3 instead. They just want.
* Every race from EU represented
They don't care that each race will require varients on voices and animations which will take a lot of time to program. They don't care that the EU is still being written. They don't care if the game comes out in 2011 or 2014, or 2020. They just want.
* Lag free gaming on Day 1
They don't care that every MMO crashes and has stability issues at launch. They don't care that this is Bioware's first MMO. They don't expect the game to be unstable for 1-2 weeks like you and I... they just want.
*Amazing PVP
They don't care that Bioware has never done a PVP game or attempted to play test PVP. They don't care that Bioware is developing 16+ story lines for the game. They don't care that this is a follow up to KOTOR II which had no PVP at all. They just want.
* Revolutionary combat
Well, I would have liked this too, but anybody who is complaining about combat at this point is mad. The game is Trinity and reworking the combat would extend development a year or two just in itself, but we just want it.
All of that said... on launch day I can't wait till all these overhypers see their sky come crashing down.
Those who expect this launch to be any better than WOWs, or who fail to remember how horrible it was, are sadly mistaken... and I await their QQ posts come launch. The forums will be overloaded with day 1 quitters, and I will be the one handing them the sporks to gouge their eyes out with, and laughing... OVERhype FTL!
I think I can be counted as anticipating this games release but I simply don't find as much interest in the bullet points you make.
"* X-wing vs Tie Fighter + Rogue squadron sequels combined into space combat."
I've seen some mention of this and know for sure there are going to be some with unreasonable expectations of it but as we move closer to launch what will be in there will be much more well known (as is the case with flight and the news it may turn out to be some sort of 2-8 minute mini game) so once launch happens no one is going to be making the case they expected that unless they just haven't been following that closely.
"* Every race from EU represented"
I can't speak for most here but I've read the Dark Horse comics many of the novels as well as the films and are aware of quite a few Star Wars races many of which I know won't be in the game. Maybe it is something wide spread but as a roleplaying game veteran I'm aware a vast majority of settings be they pen and paper, console rpg, mmo's have class/race restricitions while I can certainly count benefits of eliminating the practice I can't see a negative with this.
"* Lag free gaming on Day 1"
I don't count too much into what people say they will do without seeing what they actually do because let's face it, most of us can think of some game on the market that just baffles us how it is surviving and successful when viewed by our own standards. In this Bioware has some leeway but I don't expect them to even use up what I'm willing to offer them.
"*Amazing PVP"
I am not what you would call a pvp player, my most extensive experience was in SWG which I was a highly active pvp player and in WOW I did quite alot of pvp so again with a system for pvp I thought was good I would certainly use it but my main concern for any game is the pve. I know some players primary concern is pvp and if it doesn't come out good they will not have long term interest but I think Bioware at the least is banking on the story keeping interest enough to get sub fees from those without long term interest and if anyone can pull that off it's them.
"* Revolutionary combat"
Revolutionary combat is what brought us the age of motion controllers which I'm not too fond of. I'm in no way against change but I prefer change only if it is good so I don't care if the combat is revolutionary, as a matter of fact I hope it has enough similarities to other games I've played so as not to have to spend time trying to get over a steep learning curve.
I remember WOW's launch and while I know it had problems I was lucky to be on a server that did not often crash though I remember the flood of refugees from the other servers that did like Blackrock. Otherwise there were a few bugs none that were unplayable, one of the main ones I remember was the one where you would loot a pack and get stuck in the kneeling position but nothing breakable so if they can equal WOW in my mind it would be a success.
What I want them to avoid are launches and runs like AOC,Darkfall,STO,WAR for various reasons.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Something to think on:
WAR had huge hype.
Tabula Rasa had huge hype.
Lineage 2 had huge hype.
STO has huge hype.
