I'm planning on getting collector's edition box to get this pass just for one of my friend to play.
It says invite a friend to play for free for a limited time but I wonder after he run out of his time ... do he need to buy a box to create his own account or just need to pay monthly fees to continue to play ?
Depending on your answer ... I might or might not buy this collector edition box

He'll have to have his own retail code to create his own account, yes.
You can't just keep paying monthly fees, once a trial expires, its done.

I'm more interested in when the buddy passes are good for. I remember Age of Conan pissed everyone off by not letting anyone use them for several months after the game came out.

Hopefully right away. It's silly to have it as one of the main draws of the collector's edition (like AoC did by offering more buddy passes with their CE) and then not allow you to use it after several months when a number of your friends or even yourself may have lost interest. They're losing potiental subscribers and you're getting pissed off at the company.
