Surnames

So i have heard from various fansites that surnames will be implemented.  I am curious as to how it will work  is the surname individualistic?  For example can there be a John Smith and Jane Smith on the same server or will it just be the first names that can be duplicated? Thus allowing for John Smith John Thompson etc...

Or do we not know at all yet?

I BELIEVE there can be duplicate first or last names, but not the full name.

    John Smith

    Jane Smith

    Kevin Smith

    John Thomas

Are all cool together, but you can't make the exact same name once it's taken.

I'd actually assume you can have duplicate last names, but not first names.  Duplicate first names would cause a problem. (How would you handle a private message sent to that person?  Would you have to type out their full name which could be fairly long just to send a message?)

    This is correct.

When you type /tell John, it'll bring up a window of all the Johns online and you select which one you would like to tell. (You can also do /tell Smith and it'll do the same.) You then assign the game (if you want) to auto-tell John Smith when you type out /tell John or /tell Smith.

That makes sense i suppose. I'm sure some people will like this new addition while others may not enjoy having to find a second name.  The second name is a requirement yes?

    That's pretty sweet.

Well look at it like this for all those guys and gals that want a classic Final Fantasy name this a plus cause even if some1s mule has it you can use it with a different last name. People who played GW are already used to this and it is required to have the last name there. Either way it wont hurt too much to toss a last name and if it gets real bad spit a single name (of sufficietn lenght) into 2 names first and last.
