"And instead of just waiting for the morning fog, or hoping for a huge thundercloud to appear above your enemies keep - eventually you may start to look for ways to affect the weather yourself." (http://www.mortalonline.com/news/weather-system-explained)
But what does it all mean?

Just a thought.... If you look to the bottom of that page they also announce 2 new wallpapers, one of which is titled "balefires" http://www.mortalonline.com/files/wallpapers/Balefires1280x1024.jpg If you look at the weather map and can anticipatethe direction that cooler and/or moister air is coming from, building such balefires could help to "burn off" the morning fog.
Further thoughts on the matter....
We know that they are planning further schools of magic. IRL, clouds can be seeded by silver iodide, dry ice and by terpenes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding , so it's certainly conceivable that this is one of the long term plans.
While trying to find the latin term for weather to figure out the name for weather magic I stumbled across this :
http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/Tempestry
Tempestry is the magic of Water, fueled by the Titan Hydros. The Tempests are actually the rulers of Tenebrae, residing in the palace in the city centre. When threatened with death in ancient times, Hydros had to grant this power to the Tempests. There are many powers. Tempests can walk over water, breathe under water, summon or dissipate storms, and call lightning bolts or explosions. Since all of it comes directly from Hydros, no Words of Power, Reagents or other utensils are needed to do the magic.
Sadly, it is a inherited trait, and can't be learned, only granted by Hydros. In a attempt to do so, the Avatar made a deal and freed Hydros. But he/she was duped, and the power of Tempestry was lost for all time to Pagan.
This is from Ultima 8, so in light of the developer's looking to older UO as part of their inspiration, it's very possible that they had this in mind specifically.
This game never ceases to amaze me...
When I first played MO (in beta), I wasn't that impressed, but after leaving UO for good this past May, I picked up MO again.
I have to say that every time I log in, I see more and more pieces of the vision coming together. I have high hopes for MO and I have to commend SV for trying to build that vision. It's a tall order even for a larger game company. I really hope it survives.
Thats why I am subscribed. The progression and updates are being released faster than most AAA MMO's from such a small team.
Give it 1 year and I believe it will be mind-blowing.
that depends on if this was stuff they wanted to include in the first place but had no time to finish before. for all we know they are just about dry
Agree. They have made lots of really good solutions. Tonight we will get a very interesting patch.
Siege weapons, boss mob, tabards, etc ...
so heres a question for you guys, is mo playable yet? cause im in need of a good mmo right now, ive seen lots of arguements over the game and have yet to find any relevent gameplay info around.
Even thou there are some bugs to fix(because hey add stuff repidly), it's very playable and people have fun playing it
But every patch have made the game better and better. The last patch added lots of new stuff and also fix lots of things. This evening/night we will get another big patch, fixing more things and also add several new feats and stuff, like siege machines, tabards, boss mobs, etc ...
I play myself like 5-10 hours each day atm ... more than ever.
Read the official forums for feedback from the guys that are subscribed (or just cancelled). There are a small percentage of people who bought the game but still actively play it. So there are some people that think it is playable and enjoy it. Peak population has been consistently estimated at around 400 players. I think they sold around 15k copies. They launched 2 months ago. Their CM has said that they will have a free trial in a few months.
Good luck in your search.. wherever it may lead you. I'm still searching myself. I actually reactivated DAoC with a group of friends for some old-school RvR until the "next big game" launches... whataver that may be.

I agree that their vision for the game is a tall order. I also agree, however, that patch by patch, little by little, that vision comes closer to reality - the incorporation of weather effects being just one more piece to the puzzle. They still have a long way to go, and some problems to solve, but in my opinion this is one of the most promising sandbox MMOs around.
