Mortal Online First Impressions

PreponerancePreponerance Member Posts: 295

I started playing the game on Friday expecting horrible things. I spoke with a member of these forums but was reluctant to suggest MO to me because of the issues it has. But let me tell you I seriously haven't had this much fun in a very very long time in a MMO. I seriously have gotten little sleep. To me it's a mix of SWG/UO/EVE.

I have a spear/bow warrior, plate shield armor crafter, and survival thief which I might reroll to a mage thief and respec my warrior to poleaxes. I can spend hours in town not doing anything and feel like I accomplished everything. There are so many skills it's not even funny. The hardest part is picking what skills I want to use.

I have gotten pked a few times but it's really not that big of deal. Turned grey quite a bit with the thief and have had numerous foot chases which is a lot of fun running thru the city trying to get away from someone pushing you to reveal your flag so you get guard wacked or so they can attack you.

I played UO for a very long time and this game brings back the memories I once had. Have made many friends and enemies alike.

If you were like me, missing UO and playing every game under the sun trying to find that fix this might be the game for you. It may not but, seriously look at what the devs say. They are working on it.

If you can look past the bugs, it's nonexistent to me because the fun I'm having it phases me not. Try it out you might be surprised. Some crashes and server downs. It will only get better.

Another thing; if you do decide to play and want some help or pointers look me up. You have to take the first step.

Glad you're having fun. I think it will only get better in the coming weeks. Welcome to the game.

Indeed, welcome to the game!  I'm really glad you are enjoying it.

It does have faults, but it's also extremely fun - it's a great beginning of a game that really has that old UO feel.

Thanks guys and thanks Rohn ;). Been looking for you in game, come to Meduli I'll hook you up with some armor.

This was the first chance to post on the forums and I'm doing it via phone from work otherwise I'd be in game.

Can't wait till Monday when all the politics(territory control) come into play should make things interesting.

Think we will start seeing trade routes between alliances? It seems possible to me if different alliances control different resources. I think the Bakti to Meduli and including the jungle would be the best options for anyone to control.

Good for you, it was about the same for me. For some players, the 1st days feel a bit like this. Problem will come after 1 month of playing. You will slowly start to realise how empty the world is and how little there is to do and how quickly you get bored.

Come back in 2 month and post your new impressions

Well glad to hear you are enjoying the game. And I'm glad to see you didn't let other peoples negetive opinions steer you away from a game you ended up enjoying. It reminds me a bit of when I played Shadownbae during its bug/crash/lag days. And yes I relaize that could describe the games enitre history, but I mean right after launch back in the REAL bad old days. None of my real life friends could understand what I saw in the game. They not only refused to try it themselves they thought I was crazy for liking it so much. To each their own I guess.

I havn't tried this game out yet, but if it looks a little better in a couple of months I might give it a whirl.

say what they will but i can't stop playing this game.

wile i do think it's not a very solo friendly game, getting in a guild is extremely fun.

    Welcome to MO Preponerance.

Same for me, I haven't had this fun in any MMO since I played EQ1 7-8 years ago. As you said, there are some bugs, but the game gets better every week. I have been playing MO for a year now. Today I play more than ever, like 5-10 hours a day.

I guess you don't understand why many dislike the game because you are new, and all the features are new to you. But if you been playing this game for half a year, with same endgoal: gank as many you can or grind up crafting as much as you can, you would be really tired of it too.

Hey, I can always use armor! image

I've been working around Bak-Ti most recently, and I was out of town all weekend, which is probably why you haven't seen me around.

Generally, I like where the territorial control and guild warfare is going.  I also like the fact that the game is slowly heading from being centered around NPC towns to guild towns.

In the House of Commons IRC chat they had last Thursday, I believe Henrik said the intent was to add more varied types of resource nodes that were also more area specific, so I believe your idea on trade routes is spot on.  Personally, I think it's a great way to go, and will help in building this fledgling economy into a more sophisticated one.  I think the economic model is there.
