I'm looking forward to playing a DPS Jedi, but I'm not big on apparently being locked into using two lightsabers. That is my only criticism.
While im looking forward to SW:TOR, it is not because of a great variety within the same class. I dont expect that the different advanced classes have much to chose from.
Now, FINALLY, the investors are starting to realize that WOW was a once in a lifetime fluke, and it is highly unlikely that any one single game is going to capture that large of an audience again. I say this, because if you look at the WOW playerbase, there are clear splits amongst them. There is a healthy portion that enjoys the arena PVP format. A healthy portion that enjoys the ultra casual part of the game. A healthy portion that enjoys the full time job of raiding part of the game. probably 90% of the WOW playerbase is also people who were new to the MMO genre. Everyone knows what kind of hold your first MMO has on you. Despite how pissed you get at the game, you will generally play it for months or possibly years longer than you should because of a sense of loyalty, etc. I think people are finally starting to get disenchanted with the game, especially now that cataclysm has basically pulled all the major cool features people were excited about, and in reality isnt adding any new content, but just slapping a new coat of paint on all the old shit. Of course the fanbois are lapping it up like its the nectar of the gods, but thats to be expected.
I feel that whats happening now is the MMO field is starting to return back to its original "pre wow" development path, where rather than 1-3 major games dominating the market, it would be like the rest of the gaming field, and more specialized, tailored games would be released to suit specific styles of MMO gamers.
Wow, pretty sensible and good reading, one of the more insightful posts I've read, at least here on mmorpg.com.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
After getting so used to Aion, SWTOR's combat animations make me cringe.
I've got to ask where people are finding better animations, I've seen moves in TOR that I've never seen in an MMO before, the combat animations truly look stellar to me. Perhaps we can get some people to post examples of what they consider good animations.
Cant wait for this game, love the franchise, love Bioware, seems they are headed down the path that will make this one big fun trip for everyone, well most.
I have to say I am ready for some Pew Pew, and Pew, Pa Pew Pew!, the armor system looks good, I am sure there will be options for those who oppose anything but the cloth vestment we are so used to but, eh... its a video game, and we are all headed into combat at some point, I wouldnt mind a bit more padding when I am not stealthing through things.
Bah! I think you all you complaining have a thorn in your sphincter, good recourse, you dont find something you like, state your objection, offer a solution that is viable, list compromises, if all that fails, lean over and jerk the damm plug out of your network card and take a hammer to your monitor. Oh I forgot, nothing turns me on like some negative warped, cant say anything good about nothing individual that is so down in his life, so unhappy, so fed up with his situation, and so totally inept at dealing with his present life, he spouts out random crap to make us all feel a little less happy with life after a 12 hour day of hearing nothing but the same thing different subject!
